I gave showbox a try. Some good content on it and the Twonkybeam requestor came up and let me beam it directly to the tv via DLNA. But I had some issues with the streams freezing. Not sure if it was my wifi or the tv or an incompatible file format

Another option is go full circle, where this all began and build a dedicated HTPC running XBMC or Kodi or what ever its called now.

Good example above, i'd say, add a DVB T card to the mix and you're done.
You miss out on the "Apps" that an Android solutions allows, but you'f have a faster more solid XBMC experience.
As that link is now 6months old, good change you could do it cheaper, or for the same price with better parts.

A cheeky little company out of China called 10moons is making some nice hardware.
Android PC and also dual boots Windows 8.1.

Called the D9i, sells for under $100AUD.

Although the boxes look promising, i have noted that with brands like these you become the test bunnies, eg Minix

Yeah, its all about the hobby.
Once it works, i have zero interest in watching it.

I'd just like to find a better all-in-one solution that can handle all codecs better.
Which seems to come down to the Chipsets used.
