    Default Sound bar set ups

    Hey All,

Looking at getting a Sound bar style setup for our TV... Wanting something that works well, not bulky and ugly, and expandable in the future. We have had a Yamaha 7.1 system that never worked successful, and was huge! Probably too big for the room it was in. Then we tried a Samsung Bluray (7).1 - ok but lacked decent bass, rear wireless system was a bastard idea - then the Bluray stopped working...

So, now l'm looking at either (unless somebody can suggest something else) the Bose Lifestyle 135 Series 2 or a Sonos setup. I like the Sonos, because it can be expanded as needed, no wires, simple setup. The Bose apparently sounds better - but I'm yet to be convinced, the Bose shop had a "special" room which resembles nothing like our lounge.

    Feedback, suggestions or experiences??

    Cheers Gitch

I'm surprised you had issues with the Yamaha system (what model was it, and what speakers), mate the only way to see if the units work ok in your room is to put one in your room.

Most units these days have an auto acoustic set-up (one with either an omni directional mike, or a mike you move to each seating position), the Bose 135 is predominantly for video only, got to keep that in mind, it does the mid-ranges better as the bar can reproduce lower tones than the dual cubes (IMHO).

While the Sonos traditionally had a better/easier set-up, now the Bose comes with wireless WiFi connectivity, eg SA4 with WiFi

    Thanks guys,

Never really had a problem with the Yamaha, a V365 or something similar, but aesthetically it was too huge with the speakers it came with. I think with the small room size, the audio aspect just never seemed right, even after using the audio setup functions - depending on the volume it was either too bassy or too tinny, it works great in the shed though!

I've ended up with the Sonos Playbar and Sub (managed to knock 25% of the retail too ) and so far really enjoying it. It's not as surround sounding as the Bose did "in shop" but I probably need to get a pair of rear speakers, that can come later, another joy of the Sonos...
