Default Telstar 18 Ku band - in Australia

The footprint maps for Telstar 18 KU band appear to be pointing at Asia and no lower than north Thailand.
However, I was wondering if anyone has tried or if it may be possible to pick up the KU band from this satellite from South Eastern Australia anyway?
Prehaps with a larger solid dish, or using a polar mesh dish with one of those dual C/KU band LNB's you can get?

    Long shot...I know.

    thanks.

Buggar. there are channels on that one my wife would love.

I just pulled a Foxtel (more than likely) dish off a house which is due to be demolished. Seems to be in really good nick and it was for free! All I need now is a DiSEqC switch off ebay and I'll play around with it to see what I can get FTA from some of the other birds up there. I managed to improve the quality on my polar dish substantially the other day - instead of going off what the seller's website was telling me, I just pushed the LNB forward heaps and fiddled with the polarity a bit more and that did the trick.

I noticed in another thread members lamenting the decline of Sat tv due to the internet. I've just started with sat dishes and even just adding 8 decent channels that we like we now have much more varied and interesting tv to chose from. Instead of the dribble on the usual Aust network channels. Eg. Ariang, NHK, Russian channels, etc.....

    cheers for your input mtv.

That needs a little re interpretation I think but if tvro is saying IPTV can be received FROM 138 E (which Satellite?) which is around Adelaide, that excludes the East Coast of Australia and NZ.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

I think what he's saying is that all the channels that are available on that satellite are also available via IPTV.

    tvro520,
yes the channels I'm after are available via the internet/IPTV but the quality is bad, really bad to say the least . Yes, when the NBN arrives in my neck of the woods there will be an improvement (except for the last part of our copper wire to the exchange). However, that won't help much until the other end of the equation is improved with bigger 'pipes' which ain't gunna happen in the near future.

So, satellite gives us a lot larger viewing choice than the usual terresteral tv rubbish. And it's fun!
