Question Desparately seeking RTR planeta again

I've already asked this question a month and a bit ago, but I can't locate RTR Planeta (Russain channel) on Asiasat 5. According to Lyngsat it's meant to be on 3960 H but I'm getting zip from that transponder. All other channels are coming in strong on H and V transponders. Then a satellite shop told me it's on Asiasat 3S, but did a new scan last night and got a couple of hundred channels, some FTA and some not, but no RTR Planeta.

Is is on Asiasat 4 KU band pay channel only??

If anyone knows, I would really appreciate it.

RTR Planeta currently coming in SQ 80% on Asiasat 5 - 3960H.

Not aware of any signal on Asiasat 3.

    Other channels on 3960H are:
    AON Asia
    Reuters TV News
    Euronews - Asia
    I24 News English
    I24 News Arabic
    Noor TV
    Angel TV
    Noorin TV

These are just the FTA ones.

I don't get it. What am I doing wrong? I get NTV Mir at 60% on 4000H... I set the skew according to Dish pointer and actually went against the recommended specs for the dish and pushed the LNB nearly all the way forward which increased the SQ from 44-50% to 60% on 4000H. The SQ went up even more on AS3S, CS6B and IS8. Yet nothing on 3960H?

There's a large gumtree in the general area it points, but that is 2 houses away and not real thick?? Maybe the LNB is too el-cheapo. I guess I'll just have to play around some more.

    Thanks, Thala.

    Mattsat,

According to Satbeams, the 3960H transponder on Asiasat 3 is DVB-S2.

According to the Satking DVBS-500CA manual, your receiver is only capable of receiving DVB-S.

NTV Mir is DVB-S, which is why you're receiving it.

I think your receiver is the problem - may be time to upgrade.

    Mattsat,

    Correction:

According to Satbeams, the 3960H transponder on Asiasat 3 is DVB-S2.
    This should, of course, read:

According to Satbeams, the 3960H transponder on Asiasat 5 is DVB-S2.

    Apologies.

Ah ha, bingo! Thank you. You've solved my mistery.

I've been looking at some Strong HD units on ebay which seem to do what I need. Cheers.
