The speed of the internet
Can someone give me an idea of the average speed of data from one ISP to another.
I used to the speeds of dialup, 10mb lan 100mb lan and 1000mb lan. I have heard or terms like T1 and T3 but not realy sure of what it realy means.
Im interested to know some of these terms and what speeds they relate to and what is or might be the average speeds most ISPs have.

Heres a place you can test the speed of your ISP
to give you some idea, this is in country wa 2km from the exchange using 8mbps adsl1 connection.

That's old school, as most larger ISP's and telcos will have fibre backbones. In the old days of dial up T1 in the home was the bees knees.
Have a look at some of the achievements of fibre data transmission. Wouldn't mind a link up like this. 14Tbps!!! That's right 14 TERROR bits per second!
Being measured in Tera Bits per second this equates to 1.75 Tera Bytes per second. Or as I would prefer to measure by.... 375 HD Movie downloads per second!
