What Dick Smith has to say on this subject,... hmmm.
We have received a number of letters from people asking if we will be putting the Muslim Halal logo on our food.
To acquire Halal certification, payment is required to the endorsing body and involves a number of site inspections of both our growers and processors in order to ensure that our practices comply with the conditions of Halal certification. It is important to note that this does not reflect the quality of the food being processed or sold – it only means that the products are approved as being prepared in accordance with the traditions of the Muslim faith.
We are aware of an increasing number of large companies both in Australia and overseas, such as Kraft and Cadbury, who have obtained accreditation to use the Halal logo. We don’t believe they have done this because of any religious commitment but rather for purely commercial reasons. Perhaps these large organisations can afford to do this. While we have a choice however, we would prefer to avoid unnecessarily increasing the cost of our products in order to pay for Halal accreditation when this money would be better spent continuing to support important charitable causes where assistance is greatly needed.

So all the street vendors in Muslim countries serve Halal prepared meats.... Seems its only a Western thing, you don't see it mentioned over there.

It's amazing how 2 people could be one on forums, must be identity theft cough cough
going halal can also backfire as byron bay cookies has found out, most of the
cafes etc up here that were selling them no loger do due to the fact that
they do not agree with it and that their was a price increase to justify it.
On occasions i would grab some because they were good but now id rather
grab a packet of tasteless no frills ones .
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it
I like one of the comments posted.
Seems like they have a thing about cutting throats, it's becoming a regular pastime.Halal is no guarantee of food safety. The meat in a halal Kebab just means that the animal has died by having its throat cut and blood drained out while having a "prayer" read out.
as old wise muslim told me how do we know it is really halal all it is just sticker on the package saying halal and we are brian washed as if it is
Rick IU think they have gone halal because Qantas is major buyer since Qantas has been bouught out halal would of been top agenda
Wonder if the drugs they take & sell are also halal

From the "aussiemuslims" forum
And that was in 2006 !I was in Sydney yesterday and after doing my business went straight to the Punchbowl Halal McDonalds and feasted out. Anyway on my way back to Melbourne I called their head office in Sydney and asked when would they be trialing Halal stores back in Victoria and got told that as of today there are two stores in Melbourne which have received halal certificates and have a full time muslim on site verifying that products coming in to these stores are halal.
Nice scam. I hope they employ a full time Christian as well to stand there and look at the food
Hungry Jacks Roxburgh Park is also Halal
KFC Fawkner
Assalamu alaykum.
Does anyone know whether that Fawkner branch of KFC is still halal? They now have bacon on the menu. I wonder how carefully they watch areas for halal and non-halal food, or if they don't care about it any more...
They are still halal and no they don't have bacon on the menu. They have a sold out sign up on purpose. This is to keep the store halal by not causing problems for those in the community who want to eat bacon on their burgers. We asked them this ourselves a few weeks ago (one of the sisters who works there). Popcorn chicken is not and never has been halal. .. the other chicken is halal.. however it probably depends on whether you count machine cut chicken as halal .. I doubt they source it from hand cut sources.
There are also places selling Halal kangaroo meat in Melbourne
