    Default Topfield 2100

I recently bought this receiver I have noticed that when I press pause on live tv and then press play it loses a second and skips forward a second.

Also I have notice some pixilating in playback of recorded material. I am not sure if this is the fault of the box or the original terrestrial signal.

I am wondering if these issues warrant me changing this box to a Humax?

    Your opinions are appreciated!!

Difficult to say about signal without having accurate readings.

One thing I know about Topfield tuners, is that they are very touchy about having excellent signal quality presented to them.

They also don't like very strong signals, including out of band signals.

Strong analogue signals caused a lot of digital reception issues with Toppy's.

Of course, there's no analogue FTA transmissions now, but overloading signals, particularly from incorrectly set masthead and distribution amps still cause issues with digital.

Also normal tv seems to skip in blocks from time to time!

Topfield claims the 2100 requires signal strength between 50% and 90% and that pixilation can result if you go outside that range. I regularly have my Toppys reporting strength of up to 90% without issue.

I do not recall noticing the skip forward when you press play after pausing.

The thing I dislike about the 2100 is the propensity to misname recordings and the absence of networking. Given the street price difference between the 2100 and the 7260 I think the latter is much better value.

Just occurred to me that the skipping issues has been noticed with other Toppys. It is discussed on the oztoppy wiki:
