Can he record? A friend has one and he can only record the fta channels and none of the Paytv channels.

Went to cousin this afternoon, he is a small country town, where people have goats and lambs in their back yards
Anyway, he had a Telstra modem and T-Box.
Man, have they improved these things!! You couldn't tell it wasn't normal TV, channels changes were instant.
Huge range of channels...
I had a play with 2 T-Boxes when they first came out and they were rubbish!!! Laggy, locked up, long channel load times, etc.
Todays T-Box was brilliant, a real window into how good IPTV can be.
I did a speedtest at my cousins, was 13.8Mb/s while the T-Box was working and XBMC was streaming on another device.

Didn't check that, i'll ask him
Only the fta channels. I have the latest t-box. I had foxtel channels for a couple of months and yes, nice quality. I think better than the SD channels on a foxtel cable or satellite box. Channels change really fast, mind you I have fast cable internet.
The menu is very pretty.
Easy to subscribe, anytime you can disconnect and then telstra refunds you for the rest of the month. But because could not record anything I gave up those channels as i was missing too much.
Use it now for the fta channels and the only internet tv channel left is BPM (big pond music) which is not bad at all.

Hi,
Is the picture and sound quality of Tbox FTA tuner the same as a HDTV built in FTA tuner??
Thanks,
K.
Yes...they are a neat box, plenty of outputs. They can easily accept streams from your pc ( using media player) allowing you to cast your movies/tv shows/stored data from your pc to the big telly.Just go thru' to my media on the box to set it up.
I'm surprised t-box can't record pay tv on my fetch tv box you can record and schedule season record of all episodes of pay tv automatically

Telsta chief did say last year the T-Box was going to be discontinued...although they are now flogging them new, at half original price, maybe Telstra have something new in the wind?
Gave one to my pensioner mother so she could watch the football replays on AFL on demand. She is not willing to pay for Foxtel to get it live. You also get Presto free for 6 months at the moment.

I've had a look at presto, so far, the offering is underwhelming. Had an early T-Box, it was convenient to pause and rewind TV (my main need) but it did not last long (became unreliable) to the point that I eventually hooked up a computer with a tuner in it. That said, the tuner has hardly been used since I connected the TV. (in fact, IIRC it is sitting in my lappy bag gathering dust.)
Ok thanks guys for the info. Thinking whether to get a new one for $50. Thinking whether we can record Foxtel from it using a hdmi capture card or something like that.... Like hd fury

No go...too locked down. Are you talking a 2nd hand one for $50, I assume?
New one.
