looking at upgrading to possibly this.....

    for $2300 at local shop.

Anyone been able to load usa firmware on an aussie lg, or any other brand of smart tv ?

Would like to get netflix app on tv if possible.

Also, are there different 4k resolutions ? like the hd and full hd debacle ?

You don't think the firmware would be different due to the different tuner format?

I know on my Samsung ES7100 i can change the region just by punching in a special code on the remote, this allows netflix and hulu to be installed, dont know if its similar for the LG's

I thought that too, i hope the power supply side isnt effected.
Also, some apps are locked down serial numbers of TVs

    From another site
    Code:
    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1754759
Even if you get into the service menu on them, USA region is not present.
One guy reportedly got an LG tech to come out and flash the firmware to USA as he said he was moving there

Be easier just to buy a media player that supports this and not potentially lose the warranty on a much more expensive TV if something goes wrong

    Got a roku 3 .....
Apparently some tvs will load Netflix if you are using a VPN service like unblock us.
It's no big deal, might just buy and see if it works with unblock us.

    Got it for $2150......

Quite impressed so far, netflix looks good on it.....

Got a region free, 3d 4k blu ray player on the way as well...

bit more complicated to use than a standard tv, multiple button presses just to get to epg.

Got a Sony BDP-S6200 4K 3d region free Blu Ray coming. It's from the USA so it will have USA firmware, Netflix etc.

Much easier process on a Samsung TV

I have US Netflex and Hulu+ on my Australian Firmware TV working just fine, you simply change regions and it downloads all the US apps
You can do that with out needing a DNS solution too.

How ever, if you wish to USE the app, you will

Definitely doesn't work with the lg, only asian regions and 'other'....

No big deal as I have a roku 3, sony blu ray and android box with netflix now and new model sony blu ray coming.

I would lose the inbuilt abc and sbs apps anyway.

The roku has by far the best netflix gui, the sony is ok and the android is a waste of time, really bad image quality.

Probably have the current sony blu ray, roku 3 and 2 for sale next week, if the new sony is any good....

Yes, i agree, it is a pain to lose iView and SBS Catch Up.
Hence have reverted back to Australian Region Apps and handle XBMC or the odd Free Hulu by casting it to the TV from a portable device.
    Keeps me happy.
