Default Ness Alarm Systems, M1 vs EZ

    Hi,

I have been researching a high end alarm system for our office/workshop and as i have had experience with Ness and their D16X system i am keen to stay with Ness.

The M1 system seems to fit the bill but i am confused about the differences between the M1 and the EZ systems. They are obviously closely related but to try to understand the differences, well the Ness website isn't helping, nor are other suppliers sites? The EZ-24 (24 zones) appears a bit cheaper.

Can anyone help to explain the differences please?

    Thanks,
    Ocky

    Hi Ocky,

I went through the same thing. I can tell you the the only real difference is that the M1 has a voice module. The Ezy doesn't. The M1 has on board Ethernet, where as the Ezy requires a separate IP module at extra cost, but they do the exact same thing and use the same software and App's.

The Ezy is expandable to 200 zones and 208 outputs. So you'll never be short (i assume)

So unless you really want an alarm that talks to you when ever an event occurs, I'd go for the Ezy. While your there ditch the LCD keypad and go for the nice Navigator, way better.

    Hi AdRock,

Thanks for your information and advice. Bit strange that the NESS website gives no comparison or detail about the differences, nor any supplier sites (that i could find anyway). Looks like to Ezy is the go for me then.
The EZ24 is AU$740 with Navigator KeyPad
    M1 AU$894 (14inch) with no KeyPad - Navigator Keypad is $240 extra
    Big difference.

    Ocky

You should look at other brands apart from NESS. There's a lot of other brands that get the job done just as well.

It depends on your requirements. Sure the Ness M1 has alot of features, but are you actually going to utilise all the features ? Paradox Do good panels for automation.

    M1 is Australian made.

M1 has onboard serial. EZ24 does not
    M1 has 208 zones. EZ has 200.
    M1 has 2 way voice

Also think the M1 can have more rules ....

Yes, M1 is Australian made in our Sydney factory and exported to USA for ELK.

MCman, thanks for clarifying the Aussie made issue. Today i have purchased a EZ24 system from an Australian supplier and although it is a bit more expensive than i could have got overseas i can go to the pub and say i did support Aussie workers, when often friends just pay lip service to buying Australian. Good on NESS for manufacturing in Australia.
    But two comments for NESS,
    1. can you make the selection information easier to work through on your website, such as differences between systems, and,
    2. where to buy various system components in Australia, much of the stuff on the NESS website isn't readily available online.
I guess you are the manufacturer and don't want to deal with the end user, but more and more people want to buy online and make their own decisions about what they buy. As an owner of a Company i have been sold some crap choices in alarm/security services in the past few years and now i want to make more informed decisions.
And it is not all about buying Aussie if it isn't up to scratch but the M1 system seems close to the top of the pile with the competition.
    Cheers for the comments all....

    Ocky,

I can only hope that end-users who intend buying equipment online plan on installing it themself as well. I can't believe the number of casual enquiries we've received saying "I bought a CCTV system and now I need someone to install it for me". Guess whose fault it will be when that $299 kit doesn't quite do what the owner saw on CSI on the telly?
