    Default Hospital Television

What is the go with HTR Hospital TV Rentals what a joke at the rates they charge! Even for the old pensioner there is only a slight discount. I think it's roughly $9 a day or $40 odd a week. All they have unblocked if your not paying are the SBS & ABC radio channels. The TVs have a USB port on them which means you could plug in a USB stick or something but there is no remote. Paying for TV in hospital is more than pay tv. You are better having Foxtel and an ipad and watch it if you have extended hospital stay be way cheaper. Anyway I thought I would let you know what they are trying to rip us all off on now.

    Cheers.

What your paying for is the use of their equipment and their costs, not the programing.
This came to light when shops began installing those RED telephones years ago, there are no laws stopping the supplier from setting their own rates for the use of the equipment.
This why when you stay at a Hotel/Motel/Caravan Parks etc, they can charge what they want for the use of their equipment to make a telephone call, access the Internet, use electricity or Gas on site.
These places also have to pay a license fee to the 'owner of the program', be it Radio, TV or other media as it is illegal to 'Rebroadcast' by any means, any media to anyone other than those in a dwelling (Family) situation.

With the exception of a hospital who require ALL electronic devises to be turned off, its impossible to police patients using their own devises like iPods etc, so long as you dont plug it into THEIR electricity !!!

While their fees sure make your eyes water, just think what it must cost to 'Hard Wire' out a big hospital and fit and maintain all those TV's there.

In Australia recently, Radio stations who also use the Internet to 'broadcast' their programs were hit with an addition fee for each record played above the standard fee which caused some to cease doing so.

Many hospitals these days do not even complain if your electronic devices are on, even mobile phones. SWMBO has spent more than her fair share of time in the Cardio ward, and, as long as she is not on the monitor, they don't complain too much about her mobile being on.

Prices and services vary with hospitals.

I would just subscribe to Foxtel Mobile for $2 a week (unmetered with Telstra)

Its hard to complain when you see both doctors and specialists chatting away merrily on THEIR mobiles within the hospital.
Also what about all those antenna's on the Hospital roof?
Theres an absolute antenna farm on top of Westmead Hospital in Sydney.

There is some critical medical equipment used in hospitals that 'may' suffer interference, but it's less prone these days with advances in digital technology, for both the medical equipment and phones themselves.

As an aside... the antennas on Westmead Hospital and most other buildings, radiates away from the building, not into it.

Just like you can't use a mobile at a petrol station.....but it's ok to put a base station there (Coles/Shell Pennant Hills Rd just before the F3).

A few months ago whilst in hospital, I had my tablet "wi-fi" search for a network, and 5 were found, all inaccessible, (WEP protected), my tablet only having wi-fi, no cellular access, but there was no complaint about my use of their power to recharge it
