Default Mediastar HDX 9100 and new HDD problem

The WD 1TB drive is all but full. I purchased a new Seagate Expansion 2TB and then the fun started. The drive was not recognised by the box although it is formatted Fat32 the same as the WD unit.

Contacted Mediastar and was told that 500GB drives work well, 1TB possibly and 2TB are not supported.

OK. Partition the disk into three roughly equal partitions and format the first Fat 32 (just to test!). You've guessed it - the drive is still not recognised.

    Any ideas?

Leroypatrol is probably your best bet for an answer on this one (Yep, I know I am not him but it gets you a free bump )

I dont suppose there is any chance of returning the drive if he suggests a different one that he can confirm working ?

Geez I don't have a 2TB to even test but as far as i knew only up to 1TB worked.

The WD 1TB works well. My question is, "Why doesn't the box recognise a 630GB (approx) FAT32 partition?"

If all else fails I will, hopefully, be able to use it with my ODROOID U3 and XBMC. Look forward to answering questions regarding that!

PS. The desktop has no problem nor does the U3 in recognising the three partitions.

PPS. Good news on the new wheels Leroy.

Hi Guiseppe, have you tried to look up the Seagate web site?

Some things to look for are.
1 Is your HD an external powered drive or portable?
2 Does it have a built in Backup?
3 You say that you have re- formatted to Fat 32, does this mean that when you did this was the drive formatted to RAW before you did the Fat 32?
4 Is your drive USB3 and compatible with USB 2?

Try some of these things out, in the meantime I will check my Seagate 2TB that i have on my vast box to see if it will respond.

    Let's know how you go.
