    Default Windows Media Player

I've recently added a TV tuner to my PC and have started using Windows Media Player with Windows 8.1.
Is any one else using this?? and what is it that determines the TV guide download ?.
It seems regardless of the postcode I use I cannot get a guide for my locale to download.

I guess if Media Centre isn't the player of choice, what other choices are out there?

    Thanks in advance
    Cheers
In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

I really should have explained my needs a little better I guess.
I have streaming with XBMC set up on another system.
All I want for this system is Terrestrial TV - This I have through my Tuner.
However I want a media player that can interface with my tuner and generate a working EPG

I'm not sure if XBMC can (easily) interface with my existing tuner

I've been using a free version of for a few years now and it does all I want. EPG, PVR, Timeshift all working well.
My daughter records all her shows on the PC via the EPG and plays them back via DLNA on the main TV using Windows Media Player as the server.

I don't use Windows Media Centre, but didn't you need to run a 3rd party plugin to scrape the xmltv epg data due to licensing issues ?

anyway i use TVHeadend on a linux box with 4 USB TV Tuners which interfaces with xbmc - you get live tv and full PVR/recording as well as full epg -

There's another Windows desktop program called EPG Collector which scrapes the EPG data from any preset frequency, even VAST. Doesn't require net, only DVB. I'm pretty sure it ties up your tuners when it's working, so can be a bit of an inconvenience. I thought Microsoft sorted out all their copyright shit with Australian EPGs?
