If a website is telling your friend he needs to update his OS it is probably trying to install malware by getting him to click on the update.
You did read the warning I posted didn't you.
My friend has recently bought a new Onix brand Tablet with Android Kitkat (4.4 I think) as the OS but when he tries to access one particular site (32.com) it tells him he has to 'update' the system, errr, to what and where is it?
Its the first time he has used a Tablet and he's absolutely wrapped in it as it does 3G and he can now surf the net and make calls at the same time as well as being able to run video and TV without buffering which his laptop was battling to do.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

32.com looks like some very very dodgy warez site. I cant see a website having a need to tell you to update your operating system when you have the latest one.
Tell him to stop trawling dodgy sites or he will end up with a tablet that wont work at all.
Could not agree more!
More and more websites are pooping up targeting not only laptops and PC running Windows but also our mobile devices.
So far not much malware actually makes it anywhere unless, like in the above example, you are asked to install something andagree to it.
But if someone already tries to access websites that are attacking, than most likely, he will be searching for illegal stuff too.
So to step up the warning a level further: Never, ever install something from untrusted sources - and I don't mean the Android setting in this case
Tomtom GO730 ,Navcore 9.004 ,Bootloader 5.5256 ,Map :Australia 845.2661ttmaps and Tomplayer on 16GB SDHC class6Password for all my files: downunder
comes up as a chinese site with btsearcher.exe downloads

As far as I know, there was no provision to do an update, just the notice to do so.
I believe he has used this site for some time on the laptop without any problems.
Its not a site I have tried as I have a limited Data allowance and video streaming soon eats it away.
However I will pass the warning on and he can decide what he wants to do.
