Ok, just as a follow on to the old thread :
We currently are having issues in regards to our SEO software. I will outline the story for you below.
We have used VBulletin forum software since Vbulletin 2 (Vbulletin current version is now 5).
Back in the days of VB versions 2 and 3, there was no built in optimisation for SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). When someone created a thread , it would look something like . URL's that looked like that and didnt have the topic name in them were not popular with search engines, particuarly Google. So SEO software for forums was created and we installed VBSEO. Rather than the boring looking example, URL's would be much more search engine friendly , as an example here is the thread address of the previous support thread
As you can see, they key words of the title are now in the URL and search engines like that.
So whats the problem ??
VBulletin brought out search engine optimisation built in to VBulletin version 4. Most forums that had already installed VBSEO continued to use it. However, late last year VBSEO closed down and there is no longer any support. There is now only one company that offers and supports SEO software , DBSEO. We installed it last week and unfortunately are still having problems with heavy server spikes. This is similar to the problems we had with VBSEO.
So why dont you just get the SEO company to fix the problem ?
Both types of SEO software use extra server resources. Today our host was not happy about the huge server spike we suffered yesterday and has pinned it down to our SEO software. They blocked the script, which unfortunately also blocks access to the forum. I have made the decision that we will remove the SEO software.
OK, so just remove it then ?
Its not that easy. Austech has a huge amount (tens of thousands) of in and out bound links and a large number of redirections need to be made so that they dont turn in to dead Page 404 links. If they do, Austech will plunge off Google's index and will likely never get back up to our current position. This will destroy our income and I guess you can work out the rest.
I am going to employ someone experienced in this to do the job as it must be done properly. Even then, we will probably lose up to 20% of our traffic for a couple of weeks.
As things are, our host may block the SEO script again. Obviously I want to get SEO removed as quickly as possible, but that depends on others so I cant say when. As we have only had one major spike that has got us in to trouble, I am hoping that we can limp along until the job gets done.
Thanks for your patience

I take it as we just had another of these MYSQL error outages, that some updates have been done?
Cheers, Tiny

Yes, I noticed this one this morning.
Deprecated: mysql_connect(): The mysql extension is deprecated and will be removed in the future: use mysqli or PDO instead in /home/austech/public_html/dbtech/dbseo/includes/class_db.php on line 126
Database Error Database error
The database has encountered a problem.
In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

My apologies for posting that Forbidden access in the Internet forum as I thought it was a hiccup in the Internet.

I gathered when I got told Austech didnt exist the first time I tried to sign in (mid Saturday afternoon) things were happening again and the next time I tried the page loaded ok but the Vbulletin message told me to just piss off and go play in the Traffic as it was being upgraded so I did !!!
I havent a clue as to half of what you have had to do in sorting out those problems but Thank you and hope this will now give you all a chance to sit back and take a deep breath at last.

I'm wondering if the forum upgrade may have 'dropped' a thread i started 'Garmin Cyclops™ Safety Cameras - Latest AUSTRALIA ONLY files, Locked and Unlocked'. The other possibility is that it's been permanently deleted intentionally by Staff, but i'd have though in that latter case the OP would be informed.
Might have something to do with the 'don't post links to downloads' post perhaps
I'm no longer since 4/9/14 getting forum emails for thread updates, checked my settings both Austech & email client-also checked email web page & all looks good.
Anyone else getting this problem?
Cheers, Tiny

Thanks admin for all your efforts.

All good hear tiny, just got an email notification then.
Tiny (08-09-14)
Ok
I've done some tests on my email address & it works fine.
If I don't get any forum notifications in the next 24 hrs I'll change to another address.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On another note since the original move of the forum to the new server I can't see some pics in posts, most are OK, however I regularly am seeing the following in many different threads & posts.
This example is from post #6 in this thread
This is in the post instead of a thumbnail or image.
When I click on it I get to this page.
Showing this error.
In post #1 of the same thread the same member has posted a pic & I see a thumbnail which opens an image.
Is this an error in image posting or is it something to do with my browser?
Cheers, Tiny

Yeah I just unsubscribed then resubscribed to thread with an instant notification & the email notification worked. Hmm, wonder where all the rest of the daily notifications went?
Don't matter I use the new posts link at the top of the forum any way when I log in so I wont worry too much about it.
Thanks for looking into it.
If you could look into my previous post about images I'd appreciate it, as I'm not sure what the cause is.
Cheers, Tiny

It may be related to a bit of a discussion in the Premium members forum (you can check it out if you like, its the horse racing thread) in regards to picture extensions in capital or lower case letters. I am not 100% sure, I just remember seeing the discussion by ssrattus and will look in to it.
Had a look at that & did some tests, however I created the problem with .JPG & .jpg images, only seems to happen when using the quick reply toolbar Insert Image icon.
Anyone wishing to play around with images can use the TEST forum thread I created, for this to save clogging up this thread & giving Admin a headache.
Cheers, Tiny

The upload image link on the toolbar loads images is to an external site (postimage.org).
The inthread attachments for images are images we host on our server.
In all honestly, its better and easier to use postimage.org as it gives better options.

Yes, it well might have, and i think i've strongly implied that by the second sentence in my post. If it's disappearance hadn't been somewhat contemporaneous with the upgrade happening i'd have shrugged it off as being removed by Staff. But the lack of any advice and the fact that it was gone without trace rather than soft deleted as was done with 'links' threads in the other GPS sections left the possibility of an upgrade hiccup. Also, that one seems to be the only 'links' thread missing from Garmin and there are plenty more of them in there including countless map and chart threads and a 'World' Cyclops thread as well.
I appreciate your reply jok11n and i guess the fact there's no explanation yet from Staff may be because they're busy with far more pressing issues associated with the seo matter. Someone might still respond but if not i'll assume the second possibility is at least the more likely reason for it's demise and let the matter end here.

If it had links to pirated software in it and its gone, it doesnt matter whether its soft or hard deleted. Different moderators may take different options on deletion. Either way, it will be gone.
