    Default Baud, port, turn on GPS :no more Chinese 5" GPS receiver.

    Hello,
    Few weeks ago i purchased a 5" Chinese GPS (128mb RAM and 4GB flash) with WinCE6.0 and IGO 1.1. Works fine
    I upgrade it to IGO 2.0, works fine, i place it on external mini SD flash
    Last week i upgrade it to IGO 2.4 and then problems begins.
    Now, i have no more GPS receiver capability. This message appear: "You GPS receiver has been turned off".
    Of course, I have tried to "Turn on GPS" but no success.
    After, i have try to work with the IGO 1.1 but problem is still the same:no reveiving GPS.
    After reading forum:
    I have erase GPS info (baud, port,...) on system.ini in save folder.
    I have write port=1 baud=4800 to port=1..10 and baud=4800...115200 in sys.txt file on the root.For each value, hard reset

    No success.
    It seems that IGO can't communicate with GPS receiver.

    Can anybody help me?
    Thanks for response.

    ROM version:V.912S.710100.131105.4G
    APP Version: V3.2F-NUI20-HD-EN
    Sytem ID: 0018e420-09000000-00000000-00000001

    First of all I'ld run a tool like to see whether GPS module built in is correctly working.
    Secondly I'ld check device's registry which (serial) COM-port is device's default GPS-port - and its default baud rate -to be used by navigation apps. Typically those values are COM2: and "4800".

    Concerning the error message "your gps receiver has been turned off":

    Does your device have a GPS-reset button?

    1. If yes, do so.
    2. If not, AND ONLY IF THE GPS-MODULE IS A SIRF CHIP, then use freeware tool to manage the GPS-module. Be careful when changing settings, you can make the GPS-module unuseable for all times.

    FYI:
    In contrast to Windows CE 5.0, where a hard-reset put the device back to factory defaults, a hard-reset in Windows CE 6.0 helps not at all, because the fundamental settings no more in ROM are wired, but are stored in the Windows CE's registry, which is located in NAND flash.

    Thanks for response.
    I have downloaded GPStest.exe, and placed it in external micro-SD card.
    When card is inserted in my GPS this message appear 'GPSTest is not a valid windows CE application' .
    It seems that is does not work with WinCE 6.0
    GPS module is not a SIRF chip
    I have press so many times GPS-reset button...
    Yes, I tried 4800bps on com2 but without success.

    In my mind, to solve my problem , i have to re-install WinCE6.0 and IGO Primo but i don't know how to do and where to find this software, seller do not respond to my questions.
    But perhaps other tracks...

    Have a good day

    Sorry for having misled you: Wasn't aware of this.

    BTW:

    It is impossible to buy iGO as software. The makers only sell it to OEMs so that it can be shipped pre-configured.
    iGO comes on several different bits of hardware, almost all from China. Often older versions of iGO, always out-of-date maps.

    You will have no way of knowing whether these are pirated copies. Personally tend to assume that anything from China is suspect.

    GPSScan_debug.exe needs presence of text file named GPS.ini in same location with content

    Port=
    Baudrate=
    SyncTimeout=30000
    SleepAfterOpenPort=1000

    Was GPS.ini present?

    No problem, i have created GPS.ini with no value for port and baudrate
    When i launch GPSScan_debug, after a while this message appears in a small window: "GPS not found".
    When reading GPS.ini :
    Port=0
    BaudRate=0

    I worry about GPS module.
    However GPS did not fall, problem arrive due to upgrade, so i suspect software problem.

    Already have searched your device's registry for an entry like this

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\GPS

    and found key/value pairs similar these

    "Prefix"="COM"
    "Dll"="GPS.Dll"
    "Index"=dword:00000007
    "Order"=dword:00000002

    If entry and key/value pairs are present, then the default internal driver for the GPS module gets loaded when device boots. If NOT, then your device's registry got corrupted, what lastly requires a manual restore.

    Note: Unit's default internal GPS driver always is located in ROM, so must not fear it got corrupted or even deleted.

    UPDATE:

    Another tool that came in my mind: "PortTool". Among other things it also tests the GPS module. Output looks like
    Code:

    Fact is, you installed pirated software and now your device - concerning its GPS feature - is bricked. Are you really surprised?

    You refused to answer my question asked concerning WinCE's registry content. Why?

    Have you made a back-up from unit's registry before you began hacking?

    Assumed the GPS module technically is OK - as you suppose, but WinCE's registry got corrupted - as I suppose, and you don't know how to restore it manually, this because no backup available, and you have knowledge of MortScript - the must-have tool for every hacker - see whether this helps:

    Programmatically empty WinCE's registry in the hope WinCE will restore the essential parts from ROM. See also . Note: Doing so may brick your device finally!

    A friend of me have the same GPS model with IGO Primo 2.0 installed.

    However, when i received mine, IGO primo was 1.1 so i found on Internet the 2.0 and 2.4.
    I consider, perhaps i am wrong, that is an update.
    When i received mine with IGO Primo 1.1 the first thing i do was a backup of the internal flash.
    Of course, I have restored this backup version but always no success with .

    I don’t know how to go to WINCE registry because i have no link to go, when I launch GPS.

    Yes I have used:
    ?GPStest.exe
    ?GPSScan_debug.exe
    PortTool.exe
    DeviceInfo.exe
    MtkDLut.exe
    Founded with yours help or other forums.

    but MortScript i don’t know when i use it (i will read later what it is )

    -If updating my GPS with new software is hacking yes I am a hacker: but very small hacker, aged but beginner!

    Of course it’s my fault, I assume and it will no be the end of the world for me if i don’t success.
    Spending lot of of time to search solutions with others increase my knowledges, but we can’t success each time : it’s a funny challenge for me and i like it!
    Have a good week end!
