Google Adsense will no longer be shown
Just following on from the previous thread in here in regards to our current suspension from Google Adsense.
Its likely that an individual has been deliberately reporting us for relatively minor infractions over the last couple of months. Those minor infractions (quite minor, 2 of the 3 were minor nudity) got to 3, with ad serving suspended as a result. Its now basically impossible (without employing a professional - big site, big job, big dollars) to reactive the site due to (mainly in General Chat) minor swearing, adult themes etc against a reactivation robot that simply red cards us against Google's "stop words" - if it finds enough "stop words" ie "tits" as an example, it will not reactivate us. On top of that, everytime we delete a thread and an error message comes up, if an ad is displayed on the page we are breaching policy there as well. Its endless to be quite honest, thats just 2 examples.
As it stands, Austech is not Adsense banned. If a website becomes adsense banned, it is basically worth nothing. For that reason, and that I dont have the money to employ a specialist to go through the whole site, I am not going to try and reactivate again. While there are no current plans to sell the site, I am not going to destroy its net worth by turning it in to an Adsense banned site.
As a relatively outspoken person I have attracted my fair share of anonymous keyboard warriors. There have been numerous times in Austech's history when individuals have reported me to various institutions, everything from reporting my comments on here about poor building work on my home to the builder , stuff like that has been endless over 17 years. Of course I am an easy target, I dont hide my identity nor where I live or much else.
But targeting me doesnt always mean they land a blow on me, as in this case they land it on you. A vast portion of that money has been reinvested in to the site in many ways , mostly to try and keep traffic flowing and new people joining, which is now extremley difficult in an era where forums are dying out and social media is booming. Obviously that money will no longer be invested in the site and while the site will continue as long as it makes its costs, things will be difficult. However, Google Ads is the vast majority of the sites income and I wont be funding any shortfalls out of my own pocket.
Although its not something I have pushed heavily before, perhaps those that use the site might want to consider supporting the site with Premium Membership. We may go back to paid private advertisers, however paid advertisers make all sorts of demands on traffic and results which we wont guarantee.
Anyway, that about sums it up. Obviously there will be some changes coming , but thats going to require a sit down with a lot of thinking.

Then you may as well allow links to downloads. This brings lots of traffic to the site especially the GPS forum.

I agree that this is censorship gone mad. Google generally does some fabulous things, but this sort of thing makes a mockery of its "don't be evil" motto. But we have to live in the world as it it.
Firstly, I don't know what sort of income adsense generates which needs to be replaced. I also don't know if admin is able to share this information. The question is whether it is feasible to make up this income through additional premium memberships or donations. Assuming the existing number of premium members, what would annual fees need to be to keep the site viable?
Secondly, another alternative may be to simply move the existing content. If adsense exempts a restricted access part of the site from its requirements perhaps all material before a certain date can be moved to its own area with access only available to members. Or even moved to a separate archive site where access remains available to all. All activity apart from searching the archives would of course need to take place on Austech itself.
Just some throwaway ideas. The possibility that not enough members or private advertisers will step-up to fund the site is all too probable.
Google censorship gone mad ....... what about Art galley Sites etc .... (from famous Artists .... or not) ...... & showing them on the net

Well admin just say if you are not going to get your advertising back on this site why then keep the screws on loyal members with these ridiculous measures. I think admin is keeping his options open...the site is adsense suspended only...having the avatars back will probably ban it.
My opinion is that Google is being a bit of a bully which happens when you control too much.
The fact that there is hippocracy on their part is not in dispute but they hold all the cards unfortunately.

The site needs revenue to pay the bills - without revenue the site will sooner or later cease to exist.
Adsense was the sites best source of income, by letting people do what they want Austech will have no hope of having Adsense re-activated.
Who's going to pay the server bill then?
As long as you forward me your details to be the person held legally responsible, no problem.
Obviously its not as simple as people think. You can't just open the floodgates to people basically posting whatever they want.
There will be no change to anything until I have had time to think about what is best for the site. And for myself.......after all, its all on my head no one elses.

Just click on 'Upgrade Account' on the top of the page in the menu bar and help keep this great site going.
Regardless of adsense advertising.... it's a great way of supporting the site.
If I, German citizien, would decide to upgrade to Premium Membership, and send to AUSTECH €15 EUR (~ $21 AUD), than I would have at minimum to pay €5 EUR (~ $ 7.5 AUD) as transfer fee: not acceptable for me.
And I don't have a PayPal account.
