Default Mini usb for Nuvi 1490t

    Hi All
What type of mini usb card is suitable to use in my Nuvi 1490T to hold a second map set, an SD or SDHC.
    I have a Fission USB 2.0, 66-1 card reader/writer, is this suitable.
I would think a 2Gb card would be large enough?
Sorry if this is a dumb question but I haven't transfered maps to usb before.
    TNX in advance.

The standard GARMIN Nuvi USB-data-cable (USB to micro USB adapter), you can buy off Ebay or somewhere, looks

Because USB-sticks with micro USB (USB Micro-B) plug exist, it shouldn't be a problem if the Nuvi supports USB On-The-Go (OTG) - what I don't know.

    EDIT:

Also hybrid USB-sticks exist, which have both a USB A and a USB Micro-B plug.

The 1490 has a mini SD card socket. You would be better off using that for running other mapsets.

SDHC is what you want 2GB -16GB is acceptable in the 1490T.

2GB is plenty for ordinary Maps, For lots of Maps & Topo maps you will require 4GB or 8GB depending on the total size of all the Maps you put on card.

Yes your USB card reader is suitable for transferring maps from PC to Micro SD card.
EDIT: You can also use the 1490T as a Micro SD card reader & write to it from your PC. Once you have a card in the Micro SD slot, then plug the 1490 into the PC via the USB cable (that's the data cable that came with the GPS not the car charging cable), with card in slot it will appear to your PC as 2 removable USB drives, 1 is the GPS internal memory (lots of files & folders), the other will be the Card slot of the GPS. The card if blank will have no folders, you have to create a Garmin or Map folder for the map image/s.

Don't forget to follow my Tutorial, although it is pretty simple.

For the 1490T you just create a folder on the card called Map, then put your extra map xyz.img (any name you like.img) in it.
Or you create a folder called Garmin & put your map in that , however it must be named gmapsupp.img in the Garmin folder.

If you are adding a second City Nav map & want to have Junction View for it, you will need to add the JCV file for the map in the correct place.

I'm guessing that is what he meant that he was doing, just got his terminology mixed up.

    Thumbs up garmin 1490t

    Thanks Tiny
I have the last Sensis map set already installed and in use in the garmin folder.
What I intend to do is put the last Navtec map set on micro usb card and have it plugged in the slot.
I then can switch map sets as required.
I find the Sensis maps are more suited to general city/rural travel and less detail in Central Oz for instance, where as the Navtec maps I find has the opposite in a same area.
Thanks for your effort in describing the transfer method also, I will print it and keep.
    Regards

Having the two maps loaded is fine provided only one of them is enabled at a time. If both are checked in Map Info you'll maybe get weird routing and freezing or crash and reboot errors.

Absolutely; I tried having both selected to see what happens & although one map will have draw priority over the other, the routing can have you going around in circles.
    No freezing though.

Yes I realize that, I untick one box before ticking the next map set box.
