It would depend on what software application it runs. New maps are released once or twice a year by most.
Several months ago (April - I think) Aldi released on an unsuspecting puplic the Medion Go Pal PNA315.
Has anyone who purchased one of these had any success in updating the data so as to include things such as Eastlink in Melbourne?

i read some where that it was a mixed bag with it as some had Chinese ce and others had english .
Now it could be hacked from what i recall in a similar manner to the one from deal extreem and the one i got the cobolt version from the wharehouse
Thanks for the responses, this unit has English CE, but the question still stands,
Has anyone who purchased one of these had any success in updating the data?.
Perhaps I should add - And how did they achieve it?.
Yes it is posible to update but will depend on a couple of things. What is the current system ? R66, iGo, Mio.?.
Most of these little units run the whole program on the SD card ,if you have a card reader have a look . There will be several folders and prob a ".ini" and its that you need to look at . Open it in note pad and it will prob look something like
sdmcc\R66\R66.exe if so it will be easy! you can even have a choice.
Thanks for that GRW46,
I'll have a play with that and report back my findings.
As per my previous reply , that isnt a question that can be answered unless you tell us the name of the GPS software installed on the device.
You cant just replace data.......every GPS device runs a GPS software application and in general maps are updated once or twice a year. When updating you replace the old map with a newer one. Unless you tell us the name of the software , no one will be able to help you as we have no idea what it is running ( or anything that might show the software name )
We would also need the version number as some software version maps wont run on earlier version software. When running GPS , look for any info or about button that might show this information.
if its running windows CE mate
theres a good chance you can load up tomtom or equivlent.
Have a read of this its all on the Aldi unit.
Also in my previous post I said to look for a ".ini" file sorry thats in Linux you will probably need to look for the "shell Configuration setting"

If that relates to the unit Captain.Vain has , it seems like it has Route 66 on it. But going on that post the unit was advertised with Mio and he got Route 66 , so we need to find out which it has got on it.
But either way it shouldnt be hard to find the latest map for it if he can work out which one it is.
Thanks again for the responses Gentlemen, unfortunately the unit is sitting in my car at the Tullamarine Business car park (someone, please steal my car ). I'm O/s at the moment on a business trip. I really just looked in to trawl but saw the responses, I'll contact a mate of mine who has one as well and try and ascertain the info you require.

A solution for the PNA315 you can try to get into the unit is below :
how I got into windowsCE (and failed from then on). Then hopefully some specialists will add on to this in his step by step format.
STEP A - GETTING INTO WINDOWS CE
1. Download and unpack onto a desktop folder
. I called the folder
'GPS customise'.
2. Connect PNA315 via USB and power up the unit into the startup
menu and use Activesync for XP to connect (Vista connects like any
other USB hardware).
3. From hereon I deviated to unlock into WinCE. The PNA315 has three
apps in 'Myflash disk/Navigation' they are PictureViewer.exe,
audiomanager.exe and the GPS program mnavdce.exe.
4. As I never want to view JPEG stills, I renamed pictureviewer.exe to
pictureviewerorig.exe, you could use the MP3 player exe instead.
5. Then drag and drop the file showtaskbar.exe from the folder in step
Al above and drop it in the folder in step A3 "Myflash disk/Navigation'
6. Now rename showtaskbar.exe to pictureviewer.exe and do a "soft"
reset to the PNA315 by a light 'power-off' the a light'power-on'
7. Now here's the fun bit - click on the RHS music/clapper-board icon,
then the photos on the RHS and while it looks like nothings happened,
if you look carefully there areabout 4 lines of grey on the bottom of the
screen
8 Using something smaller than your finger (say a pencil if you don't
have a stylus) click on this grey area being carefull that you don't click
the big icons 'music' and 'photos' - and presto - up will pop windows
taskbar!
9 Click on the windows logo, programs and windows explorer (all the
usual things like control panel etc)
phew .. I deliberately typed this in full detail for newbies like me.
Now...
STEP B - INSTALLING TT6
....this is where I need help and experts like Slippery or the Admin can
try and guide us............"
Email me if you want further details
Igo maps now working on the 315. Its not hard to do. Just download software at for Universal SD-Free Unlock for most CE Devices. Follow the read me. The navigation exe was a little hard to spot, its called "mnavdce" and some adjustment was required to the "sys text" under "GPS" to use port "2" Map details are at The Ultimate and New IGO8 Thread By Hollowman - FEB 2010 on this forum.
