I recently "jazzed up" the reputation system. For those that dont know what it is or how it works , here is a brief rundown.
Each member receives reputation points through basic things such as posting and how long they have been a member for example. Receiving thanks is another.
In your mini profile under your avatar, you will see Rep Power and Reputation.
Reputation is how many Reputation Points you have. Reputation Power is how many points you give or take when you leave reputation for others when you click on the little star icon on the same bar as where Thanks are left.
What are the stars ? Here is a brief run down :
So basically , as your reputation is added to, you get more and more "pips". At the maximum pip level, it converts to a Bronze Star. Back to pips, hit maximum and and then another Bronze Star. When it gets to 5 Bronze Stars, it replaces them with a Silver. 5 x Silver = a Gold."This hack extends the existing reputation display system from just the light/dark green pips to green and golden pips, and then a series of bronze, silver and gold stars as the pips limit is reached.
The dark green pips are followed by light green pips, which are then followed by gold pips.
When the limit these can display is reached, the (prefix) display of stars begins - starting with the bronze stars, then the silver stars and finally the gold Stars. If your reputation is zero then the neutral grey pip is displayed. Negative reputations are displayed in a similar manner using light and dark red pips and red stars - however, there is only one star level for negative reputation.
Each time you 'lap' the limit of the pips display, another star is added. The number of each star is limited by an ACP option (by default, 5 bronze = 1 silver, and 5 silver = 1 gold). The number and value of the pips in each group of pips is defined by six settings".
Dont hesitate to leave other members good or bad reputation via the icon I mentioned, or leave people Thanks for good posts.
It can be a surprisingly accurate way of measuring how much faith you put in what someone says

Just a, related, question...Does clicking on "Thanks" also add to rep or only the "reputation" button?

Admin,
I've got a link called "Reputation Comment" in my notifications box when I log in.
When I click on the link the "Settings" page is opened - but there is nothing there - I've checked the Inbox, and looked through all the "Edit" functions, but can't find anything.
I notice the "Reputation" icon is no longer on the bottom left hand corner of my posts, which I'm assuming is not a coincidence.
What's the problem, and what do I need to do?
Thanks
Will be interesting to here admins suggestion as to what to do, several of us have the same thing.
Re; the reputation button in your posts; You can't give yourself reputation - so no button on your posts for you.
The button is on your posts for me & others to use.
Done that, happening to me on 2 different PC's on 3 different browsers? No point in wasting any more time on it.Originally Posted by Rick

I think the notification system is broke. I did a support ticket on it, but nothing got done..I just ignore it now, as obviously it is an error.

Thanks Tiny,
Didn't realise it was a wider problem.
OK - so that makes sense - to be honest I've never even noticed the thing there in the past, so when I looked recently and saw it wasn't there I just assumed that must have had something to do with the notification issue. You can't give yourself reputation - so no button on your posts for you.
Hopefully, my reputation, such as it is, is still intact
I have mentioned a few times that its a bug and nothing we have done fixes it. We are due for a forum software upgrade, so I am expecting that when we do that the problem will end. I haven't made the forum upgrade a high priority, as its a low priority issue which doesn't effect forum use.

Thanks Admin,
Wasn't aware that it was a pre-existing problem - it's only just popped up at my end, so assumed it had some significance.
It is getting a bit annoying because you tend to ignore it and miss other notifications in it.
I might have to work out a day that I can dedicate to an upgrade. I have been putting it off a bit as I can't sit in front of the computer for extended periods of time anymore without taking extreme amounts of pain killers, so am finding it hard to get excited about doing it But it has to be done, so I will look in to trying to do it in the next week.

Admin,
Understood - but no amount of pain killers is worth the trouble for what can only be described as a minor inconvenience for us.
Take care.
Getting a PM resets it ATM?
Mine just shifted to zero after a PM??
Cheers, Tiny

Something is wrong with mine. It should say I'm awesome!
