Here is the list of item you not meant to put in your $$$ Miele Dishwasher

    Items not recommended for
    dishwashing
    – Cutlery with wooden handles
    – Wooden cutting boards
    – Glued items such as old knives with
    handles glued together around the
    shank of the blade
    – Handmade craft items, antique,
    metal trimmed or decorative
    glassware
    – Plastic items that are not heat
    resistant
    – Copper, brass, tin or aluminum
    – Dishes with color painted over the
glaze. These dishes may fade over
    time
    – Fine glassware and crystal items
should only be washed using the
    "China & Crystal" program*.
    Otherwise clouding or etching may
    occur after frequent washing.
    – Cast iron pots and pans
I have no idea why people even buy them or any dishwasher if this is the case
Guess i better find out what is the best detergent now *shakes head*

Don't use ordinary detergent or you will stuff it big time!!!!! Use dishwasher specific stuff. We find that the "Finish Quantum" tablets seem to do the best job. That said, their list of "can't wash" is mainly to protect the stuf listed as dishwashers use very hot water (leeches all the ould out of timber and could melt some glues), a very alkaline washing solution (as with hot water, but can also etch fine crystal, paint etc) which covers most of the other items listed. I tend to put everything in the dishwasher, if it isn't dishwaasher safe, it won't be in my kitchen for long anyway. The dishwasher will see to that. My best kitchen knife has a wooden handle and has been through the dishwasher just about every day for the last 30 years with little trouble.

Thanks lsemmens, i also found Miele make their own detergents products and they are actually cheaper then "Finish"
Maybe we should use them, might help with warranty claims
They even suggest the unit should be installed by a Miele Installer (Mmmmm bugger that).

It's a simple job to do yourself. My biggest issue was having to cut bigger holes through the cupboards for the inlet hose as it has a large solenoid at the tap end. Removing the plastic surround allows a much smaller hole to be cut and the plastic cover clicks back easily afterwards.

Yes i know how simple it is, my thinking is they say its needs to be installed buy a Miele Installer for Warranty reasons.
ie: you do it yourself, you have just voided your warranty.

I would think they would have to prove that the way you installed it somehow rooted their machine
They never gave me that spiel about needing them to install it and it was Miele who delivered it.

That thing on the end of the hose isn't a solenoid, I'm not 100% certain but I think it is something to do to minimise water hammer. We rented a house at one stage that did not have a dishwasher and mobile dishwashers were almost impossible to find, so I jury rigged plumbing to the tap, and extension cord to a power point, but the biggest problem was the fact that the thing would fall forward when you had one of the drawers open when full of dishes. (Nothing to counter balance it!) Fortunately I still had a broken halfshaft from one of our chippers when I was tree lopping so I tied that to the back of the machine. It worked a treat!

They never gave me the spiel either, its just printed on the 2nd page of the User Manual.

Plus i have also read of other people getting Miele to deliver and install it, so they had no issue with warranty later.
To be technical, it does say "Should", not "Must".
I'm sure you would be ok to Self Install, but it is a worry that they even mention it i think.

When I took the plastic cover off to make it smaller there was wires going into it that travelled along the inlet pipe to the machine...probably not a good idea to shorten the hose

Here is a pic of a non genuine replacement and you can see the wires

"Waterproof anti-leak system Featuring a double-skinned inlet hose
and a solenoid valve attached directly to the stopcock. If water leaks
between the two skins in the hose, the valve automatically shuts off the
water supply, protecting you from water damage."

Water pressure here is over 1000Kpa, so i ended up installing the Pressure Reduction Valve were the water entered the house.
It made the world of difference to any appliance and all the flick mixers taps.
Since doing it i have never had to change a washer or seal, before doing it, every 12 months. And there was No Way you'd leave something like the washing machine taps left on when not in use.

They certainly are hinting about voiding warranty.

Yes, if you read some of the Whirlpool threads, people got Miele to deliver the unit (which is how it works, unless the store happened to have stock), then got them to install it.
And as it reads in the User Manual, that is exactly what they are suggesting too.
Perhaps they do a water pressure test on the tap you connect the unit too?
Maybe they even do the "Use for the First Time" steps which are also mentioned in the Manual.

The people mentioned they got Miele to "sign off" on the installation, and kept that with their receipt.
