    Original problem was "slight flickering of picture"

    Quick test shows that there is now no response from unit.
    Thought would chase up any info before full diagnostics.

    What does the book say about typical problems with this unit.

    does this sound good for you ???

    When turned off with remote, stand-by light goes out unit can not be turned back on with remote or with main switch. Have to unplug for 5 minutes before it can switch back on.

    Replace IC801(STR-S6307) and D836, D811, D830 All opto's are TLP621G-LF2.

    I remember a set with a similar model number and the common problem with that one was the video input switching IC.
    Symptom - picture only via the AV input. No picture via the tuner.

    Unfortunately the IC is obsolete, so unless you have one in a drawer, your only option is to use the set as a monitor, or dump it.

    I dumped many of these for this very reason.

    "Slight flicker in picture" could well be dry joints on the vertical output IC.
    Reality is an invention of my imagination.

    Yep.
    And then when the dry joint becomes severe enough, then you have total vertical collapse leaving no picture at all or the protection circuit kicks in giving you possibly no power at all except perhaps the standby light on.

    @moeee
    Hold onto that for the while. If you are throwing it out let me know.

    IC601 seems to be the culprit. Did a quick pass over for dryjoints and unit has come back to life. Will let it run in and see if it develops any more problems.

    Thanks for the heads up guys.
