Looks like Tomtomone(4th Gen) will do Text to Speech.Anyone got the PDA version?
Is there a GPS software which reads out the street name rather than just
telling you turn left,turn right I have to look at the screen to see which
street I need to turn
Look Here -> |

There is no tomtomone version for a PDA. Only Tomtom
By reading this, you have already given me control over a tiny slice of your mind
Igo8 ,destinator, mio 3.3, navman, gamin plus a few others will all give you the street name.
Just how clearly is another subject
garmin does it definately
Yep, iGO8 is the go, works great.
I have iGO8, how do you get it to say street names. Does this work on the PDA version ?
Just bought a TomTom XL tonight, reads out street names and warnings. Only problem is it only works with the TomTom computer voices i.e. US male and female voices no other language or dialect of English.
tts files for igo8 here, includes readme file with instructions......
password for rar file is austech.info
btw comp_dad, no need to ask the same thing in multiple threads....
Have followed the instructions and plain voice works OK... TTS just gives a beep / tone..
iGO8 8.0.0.44366 Map Sensis 071017
SD card has a iGO8 folder with the tts_loq folder under it and .dll's in the iGO8 folder
Do you have any suggestions ?
I suggest you read the 'readme.txt' file again...
In other advice in TTS files that I found, was (download the Loquendo TTS voices to use the iGO8 dir as the nominated root) which I have done and tried, and it did not work. Tone only for tts voices.
In addition the iGO8 sys file states: [folders]
app="%SDCARD%/iGO8"
;app="Internal Storage/iGO8"
So I then tried your files, and as per your txt file...
SD card is as follows, as set up by default from all iGO8 installs (sub = subdirectories);tts_loq folder and .dll files go in root of sd card.
voice folder goes in sd card/content folder.
Hoe
<SD root>
2577
iGO8 (sub)
Program files (sub)
Other (sub)
<iGO8>
Content (sub)
Defaults
licence
tts_loq (sub)
I then followed the instructions provided by you, and placed tts_loq folder and .dll files go in root of sd card.
Thus
<SD root>
*.dll's
2577
iGO8 (sub)
Program files (sub)
Other (sub)
tts_loq (sub)
Can you please explain where I did not follow you instructions and what I should now do?
As, I still only get a tone when selecting the Voice identified as tts capable...
I look forward to hearing your suggestion.

Only problem I have with Igo8 is the fact that when it reads a street name it will say the A8 or some designation of that rather than the actual street name. Its a bit of a pain with that, and something I prefer MioMap with.
I've been trying to work out how to adjust it.
Coding in C is like sending a 3 year old to do groceries. You gotta tell them exactly what you want or you'll end up with a cupboard full of pop tarts and pancake mix.
