    Default GPS S/w reads out street name

    Is there a GPS software which reads out the street name rather than just
    telling you turn left,turn right I have to look at the screen to see which
    street I need to turn

    Just bought a TomTom XL tonight, reads out street names and warnings. Only problem is it only works with the TomTom computer voices i.e. US male and female voices no other language or dialect of English.

    Have followed the instructions and plain voice works OK... TTS just gives a beep / tone..
    iGO8 8.0.0.44366 Map Sensis 071017

    SD card has a iGO8 folder with the tts_loq folder under it and .dll's in the iGO8 folder

    Do you have any suggestions ?

    In other advice in TTS files that I found, was (download the Loquendo TTS voices to use the iGO8 dir as the nominated root) which I have done and tried, and it did not work. Tone only for tts voices.

    In addition the iGO8 sys file states: [folders]
    app="%SDCARD%/iGO8"
    ;app="Internal Storage/iGO8"

    So I then tried your files, and as per your txt file...

    tts_loq folder and .dll files go in root of sd card.

    voice folder goes in sd card/content folder.

    Hoe
    SD card is as follows, as set up by default from all iGO8 installs (sub = subdirectories);

    <SD root>
    2577
    iGO8 (sub)
    Program files (sub)
    Other (sub)

    <iGO8>
    Content (sub)
    Defaults
    licence
    tts_loq (sub)

    I then followed the instructions provided by you, and placed tts_loq folder and .dll files go in root of sd card.

    Thus

    <SD root>
    *.dll's
    2577
    iGO8 (sub)
    Program files (sub)
    Other (sub)
    tts_loq (sub)

    Can you please explain where I did not follow you instructions and what I should now do?

    As, I still only get a tone when selecting the Voice identified as tts capable...

    I look forward to hearing your suggestion.

    Only problem I have with Igo8 is the fact that when it reads a street name it will say the A8 or some designation of that rather than the actual street name. Its a bit of a pain with that, and something I prefer MioMap with.

    I've been trying to work out how to adjust it.
    Coding in C is like sending a 3 year old to do groceries. You gotta tell them exactly what you want or you'll end up with a cupboard full of pop tarts and pancake mix.

    So what is you file structure / install method?

    Never had any of these problems with Designator, TomTom or Mio... For some reason, getting iGO8 installed cleanly and being able to manage POI and trafic warnings is not so clean cut, let alone TTS.
