17 inch HP Notebook that has Windows 8 on it
Wrt comments about how long it took to install, we don't know the age/condition/specification of the machine....but to me, HP notebook running win8 could mean a machine 10+ years old, with less than 1Gb ram, and if it has any cooling fans they could be clogged with dust...and any thermal interface paste has likely gone dry by now....and of course 'notebook'.....it might be running on EMMC storage.... things can get very slow & yukky if it's a worse case (but possible) scenario like this ...I know, I've felt the pain... if you're stuck with a 32/64Gb EMMC drive, the pain is palpable... especially with only 32Gb of drivespace...ie; don't even think about the upgrade path, waste of time 'coz it -will- fail ...(we used to get heaps of RA's claiming faulty hardware, but 90% of the time it was a failed win8->10 upgrade, or a win10 update tried to roll in with insufficient space to complete and get lost in a recovery loop =)

One needs a follow a different strategy when the machine has a EMMC onboard storage device...

Indeed, fair comment....even though I'm a linux stalwart, I very rarely proffer linux over windows...most especially to users who've been used to windows for all/most of their life .....and then particularly so for older folks who've gone through the learning curve of being to use windows ; it's not 'fair' on them from a personal aspect...(it's another matter when you can be there in person to support them). Then of course you mention business type environments... OS migrations within this scope are fraught with problems =)

Yes the17 inch i7 Notebook is working good, have not put any HP Drivers in it and so far having seen any issue with it not having HP drivers. The replacement of the SSD 540GB drive to a 2TB SSD made a big difference to the computer, Yes my friend cloned the original drive to the new one plus added 3 partitions. The Wife is happy I'm happy. Thanks all for your Help...............

All I know its 8 years old, I clean the fan a best as possible, block the fan, use compressor to blow out the dust, clean the intake and exhaust screens. Its a AMD A8 Ryson with 8 gig of memory and now has 2 T/B SSD drive. I clean the puter twice a year or sometime more as the wife is slack to do this, clean the keyboard and the screen and works ok but for pulling the notebook apart to clean and add thermal paste its about my pay grade to pull it apart. I have no issues doing a desktop as I have done this before, cleaning, building, changing GPu's and other.
