    Default Testdisk help

Is anyone here familiar with Testdisk software?

Basically I have a 3TB HDD partitioned into two parts. The file system was ext3, somehow it became corrupted. Both Linux and Windows can see the partitions but cannot mount them nor anything I have tried recognises the file system.

I tried easeus datarecovery which found a lot of files, but nothing I really recognise. I'd prefer if possible to get Testdisk to rebuild the tables or whate ever it does and hopefully get a fully functioning drive again, at least so I can get the data off it.

Not familiar with Testdisk but maybe try Hiren's bootCD to recover your files?

In the past, I and others have used a program from Gibson Research Corporation called Spinrite to recover corrupted hard drives.

Spinrite was successful when other recovery software was not.

I haven't had cause to use it recently, but I suggest you try it in this instance.

    More info. at .

+1 for spinrite, I may be stating the obvious here, but, better to be told 10 times than not at all and finding out too late. Any data recovery should be made to ANOTHER drive or you may well lose everything.

Hi Warbo, check the link below. If you do manage to recover the drive, drag all your data off it and upgrade the filesystem to ext4.

and google fsck for more info.....

Thanks for the help guys. I ended up installing ubuntu on an old pc and it recognised and mounted the second partition which was the one I was really concerned about as it had old photos on it. Of course not being the owner of the files made it a bit of a headache to copy them. When I worked out how to log in via root all was good.

The drive is now formatted as ext4 and working normally.

I got a hold of most of the suggested programs and will keep them for the future.

    Cheers.
