In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

    This might be interesting
I wonder if it will lead anywhere else?

    Ducati gets POLE position.

Andrea Dovizioso claimed a sensational pole position in Qatar, with Ducati filling 3 of the top 5 positions on the grid for Sunday’s race.
After the free practice sessions we knew that it would be close in qualifying, but few would have predicted the outcome of QP2. Andrea Dovizioso blitzed his way to pole in spectacular fashion as he took advantage of the softer tyre option to set a time two-tenths quicker than the rest of the field, and funnily enough, seemed quite pleased: “I am very happy because the pole today is the result of a group effort: after two years in which we have suffered, we finally managed to achieve a competitive motorbike, and I honestly did not think we would have been so fast right away with the GP15.”
The Italian rider also feels that the GP15 is not just quick on a flying lap, but might also have good race pace: “With the soft tyre, we managed to set a really awesome time, but even in the fourth free practice session with the medium tyre the feeling with the GP15 was something special, so I’m confident and I think that tomorrow we can fight for the podium.”

Thirty-four days ago Andrea Dovizioso hadn’t even ridden Ducati’s new Desmosedici GP15 machine.
Tonight in Qatar, he rode it to a stunning first pole position of 2015 to set-up what promises to be an exhilarating start to the MotoGP World championship.
Dovizioso’s faultless lap of 1.54.113 secured the Italian only his third premier class pole in 125 attempts.
And it was hardly a huge shock was it?
After only eight days on track, Dovizioso put the GP15 on top of the timesheets at the recent Losail International Circuit dress rehearsal. And since its first day on track in Malaysia last month it has looked every inch the competitive bike Ducati has been searching for since Casey Stoner dominated the inaugural 800cc World Championship back in 2007.
It’s true that the option to use the softer Bridgestone rear tyre for the frenetic 15-minute qualifying shootout is a crucial advantage for Ducati.
But the GP15 isn’t just a one-lap wonder that’s blindingly fast on soft rubber.

What a race, all Italian podium and both Duc's on the rostrum! I don't think I've ever been so glad NOT to hear the Spanish national anthem!

Young Jack didn't have the best of races but chalk that one up to experience and move on, so much to learn jumping up from Moto3 but he'll get there.

    yeah, +1.

I only just got to watch it, visitors & life (cut, split & stacked 1.5 ton of wood today).

Spent my free time over the weekend "live" on the F1 & V8's, self imposed.

Couldn't have scripted that MotoGP race better from a marketing point of view.

Ducati are on the verge of becoming full factory (f'n fast down the straight), if they win a race they may lose their rule advantage (soft tyre for qualifying, engine development & extra fuel per race) over the other factory teams, not sure if that would occur in this season or next year?

Great riding by Dovizioso, Iannone & Lorenzo.
Marquez did a great job to recover from his first corner run off, I was expecting him to come thru & win until he ran out of steam. Pace at the front was too quick to catch.

    What a ride by Rossi.
any one got another hat for Daryl Beattie to eat!

    & the Moto3, awesome!!
    Cheers, Tiny

    Default Post Race Headlines

Lorenzo: “I lost half of my vision”

Double MotoGP™ World Champion Jorge Lorenzo explains why he faded towards the end of the race in Qatar, eventually finishing in 4th.

Lorenzo was competing at the sharp end for most of the Commercial Bank Grand Prix of Qatar, leading the race for a number of laps before mysteriously dropping back from the front runners in the latter stages.
It turns out that he had a good reason for his sudden lack of pace…
    Jorge Lorenzo:
“It was a difficult race. After the first lap, I found myself in second place and I followed Dovizioso. I was faster and I passed him where I could in the fast corners. On the speed and in braking the Ducati was much stronger than our bike, but we could recover on corner speed while the acceleration was similar. To be honest, I thought that I could win the race, though it surely wasn‘t going to be easy, because Valentino had a very strong pace at the end of the race. I was feeling better and better, but suddenly there was something wrong when in the top part of the helmet the foam came loose and came down so I lost half of my vision. I couldn‘t see the corners very well and couldn‘t concentrate or ride like before and I was losing half a second or more per lap. In a race where, at minimum I could fight for the win, I finished fourth.”

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miller: "I was in too much of a rush to pass"

CMW LCR Honda’s Australian rider Jack Miller crashed out of his debut MotoGP™ race in Qatar, after making good progress during the race.
Miller had been steadily improving his pace throughout the race, but having started from a difficult 22nd position on the grid, he was always fighting an uphill battle. He closed in impressively on fellow open spec Honda riders Eugene Laverty and Karel Abraham, but as they diced for 18th position, he and the Czech rider crashed out.
Jack Miller: “It was a difficult race for us. We got off to a good start and I was going quite good. I made a few mistakes and got a little too tight on the bike but finally got myself back together when we were close to last. After that I really started to work, and closed the gap to the other Open bikes.”
“It was working really well, we pulled up and I passed two guys and then caught up Abraham. When I got there I was in too much of a rush to pass and went too deep and lost the front. Unfortunately it took myself and him out. Being on the last lap it was a shame not to finish the race, but we learnt so much and I look forward to carrying on the learning process in Texas.”

Ducati fuel allowance reduced after Qatar podiums

Following the Ducati Team’s results at the Commercial Bank Grand Prix of Qatar, its fuel allowance has been reduced from 24 to 22 litres.
MotoGP™ Race Direction has officially notified the Ducati Team regarding the regulations affecting its MotoGP Factory Option entries, which under Article 2.4.4.5.5 of the FIM Road racing World Championship Grand Prix Regulations means that the concession of a 24 litre fuel tank capacity will be removed effective immediately.

This is due to the fact that Ducati Factory option machines have now achieved three podiums in dry conditions since the start of the 2014 season: Dovizioso’s 3rd place in Austin 2014, his 2nd place in Qatar 2015 and his teammate Iannone’s 3rd place in the same race.

From the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas until the end of the 2015 season, the fuel tank capacity for all Ducati Factory option machines will be a maximum of 22 litres.
This applies to Ducati machines entered under the Factory Option, which include Ducati Team’s Dovizioso and Iannone, as well as Pramac Racing Team’s Danilo Petrucci and Yonny Hernandez.
The Avintia Racing Open entries of Hector Barbera and Mike Di Meglio are not affected.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marquez sets fastest ever recorded speed in MotoGP™ during the Commercial Bank Grand Prix of Qatar, 350.3kph (217.66mph) as he finishes 5th.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marquez: “We have salvaged eleven important points”

It was a difficult start to the defence of his MotoGP™ title for Marc Marquez, as finished in 5th under the floodlights in Qatar.
After running wide on the opening corner, Marquez was forced to fight back from last place in order to claim fifth overtaking some 19 riders in the process.
    Marc Marquez:
"We should be happy because we have salvaged eleven important points, when we could easily have left here with none. It was a tough race, in which I made a mistake at the first corner and dropped back to last place. This meant that I had to make a comeback, pushing hard all through the race, but in the end I saw that I could not catch the group at the front. The positive that I'll take from today is that we rode at a similar pace to the lead group. In Austin we will continue to work hard, with an even stronger desire to do well."
    Cheers, Tiny

With some of the recent attempted comebacks (in both 2 wheels and 4 wheels) perhaps Honda have read this one correctly

In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

    Agreed, good decision.
After watching Dani Pedrosa live, he is amazing, i have never seen a guy lay a bike so flat mid corner.
He would be hard to replace, especially at that level of riding.

Yeah, recorded it & watched this arvo, FP2 was interesting as well with the drying track & maybe the decider for qualifying as FP3 is forecast wet.

If it is wet tommorow for FP3 then Lorenzo will have to ride in Q1 to get to Q2, against all the extra soft tyre guys.

I was going to get beaten around the head if I did leave with the family. George was starting his last lap as I walked out the door. Hopefully it will be dry tomorrow. (But go Ducat )

yeah great racing, the Dukes are going to have to watch their fuel usage now though, they both ran out of fuel on the slow down lap!

That's cutting it a bit to close.

And a great ride from Miller, 1st Open Class bike home
