Yeah; the interesting thing will be the actual race broadcast, will it be add free on Fox or split screen adds like they are using on the qualifying & V8's??

Well it wasn't add free as expected on Fox , high hopes have been disappointing.

We got 6 split screen add breaks lasting 2 laps each over the race distance.

At least we could see what was happening on a large screen TV during those breaks.

That aside, well done to Daniel Ricciardo for doing an exceptional job of bringing a difficult package home in a good points position. 6th place, 1 lap down.

Mercedes 1-2. Good job, they are at the top of the game & dictating the rules it appears from the 4 engine rule.

Vettel; well he is a talent & has the Ferrari humming, watch out, he's going to make them honest.

Totally agree mate, it was a pretty cheeky play on words the way they slipped the adds in!

To have the nearest rivals 30 seconds behind on the first race means the Vettle and Ferrari will have more than miracles to perform.

I watched the race on and off (it was boring and putting me to sleep), my only need to watch F1 now will be to study Sainz driving skill.

I find it highly interesting to see he followed his father footsteps in motorsport but more fascinating to see if his father has been coaching him.

His father was a old timer "control freak" behind the wheel in World Rally, i wonder if that skill was passed onto his son and if it was, if it will help the kid in F1.

If it wasnt for Sainz driving today, i wouldn't waste my time watching F1, the last few years of rules have taken the soul away from F1 and made it boring.

You think thats why Schumacher is sleeping through it?

I liked the race, i really enjoyed watching the first time drivers, and the pit guys working.
I like what Ferrari have achieved, considering what their plans are.. they are showing good promise.
But i know what you are saying Godzilla. It is becoming a category of Technology, Budget and Rules.... Instead of the drivers talent bringing them to the top.

Ricciardo said sorry for a boring race.

    /rant on/
F1 should not be boring but the Mercedes dominance again is looking like it could go that way.
How many camera shots were there from Hamilton's car?
I remember one in the beginning and one in the end.
If there were any in the middle they surely didn't excite any of my dying brain cells to wire up a memory.

Seeing the F1 stewards are so tightarse about the engine design,
why not give/sell all cars the same obviously best performing engine
and the rest is up to chassis design and driver performance.

I also wonder what the Red Bull guys were doing throughout the whole winter break, skiing and consuming energy drinks it seems
until they finally decided to test their cars in P1-P3.
Ouch, a bit late for that.
I have designed and built equipment in my field in the past and I would have never let it out to the public or submitted for CE approval without
rigorous field testing and proven reliability in all possible scenarios.

How much money and manpower do these Red Bull guys have compared in example to the Sauber team?
...and if they can blame Renault for not delivering a proper power plant then they can cancel all contracts for failure of delivery
and get a proper Mercedes engine.

Well it is now too late for that. I am sure there was a piece of road somewhere in Europe were they would have time
in the winter break to test this French stuff and find out it is crap and get a bit of decent German made machinery.
I have had 3 French cars in my life, so I must admit it also took me a bit long to figure that out too.
The first was a Citroen that would always fail to work when it started to rain on the Autobahn. I was luckily it got stolen after 6 months
The second was a Renault R4 that actually got well through the Winter, I could dance pirouettes with it on the snow, was quite fun,
    but the rust was not.
The third a Peugeot 504, real luxury, comfortable and just like a living room I could barely get it to move at all.
Once I finally got a Merc 300D there was no stopping for 450,000kms until I had to sell it to come back here.
    /rant off/

Ricciardo doesn't have to apologise, I feel sorry for him.

F1 use to be about feeling and soul, ridiculously quick cars that produced a sound that traveled through your body, they looked violent, they were violent.

Watching it now is like listening to the Mrs running a vacuum cleaner, after a while it irritates me, the cars are no longer as dangerous as the old ones were perceived.

Good old Speed week was playing on the other channel, far more delightful to watch and entertaining.

I never would have believed F1 would have changed so much over the years, ive been watching the sport well before i had pubes religiously, i seriously have no interest in it any more, its not what it was.

Those wheel to wheel fights between the Sennas, Hills, Bergers, Prosts in the 80's Golden era are gone, the pure motorsport entertainment value is gone, today its just a money spinning circus.

Maybe those who didnt follow the sport from the 70's may not understand whats been taken, those who didnt go to Adelaide during the ground effects skirts and Turbo era of the 80's will never understand how tame and lifeless these cars have become.

The old era of cars use to bite drivers, spectators use to be taken aback from the sheer violence they produced, cars had no driver aids, they had real gear sticks, drivers had to drive the cars back then, not "attend" to them like today.

The sports gone shit as far as in concerned.

Maybe its catering to a new generation of touchy feeley breed who dont know whats gone because they never experienced the old rawness the sport produced.

Sounds like a script from the TV show, Grumpy Old Men

Yep, i miss those days too, but i wonder, is it just progression? Is this what those that drove or watched F1 in 1960 thought about the cars of 1980?
I mean, you want to go to REAL drivers cars where people got killed in roll overs, go right back in the game, it was madness.

I guess F1 is the pinnacle of motorsports, it is meant to have the latest technology first, its where automotive tech is born.
Yes, it is disappointing that F1 has become a game won or lost by engineers and strategists.

Even my missus said, whats with the steering wheel, it looks like Playstation.

Still, i enjoyed last year, what Ricciardo did was some pure driving skill and balls!
Inside dives or outside high speed passes.
Hopefully we see some more of that type of driving this year with Sainz and few more.
The Merc 1/2 is boring, the race starts at 3rd position and goes back from there.
If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!

Fernando Alonso will be back in race action in Malaysia this weekend providing he passes final medical tests, McLaren have confirmed.

Alonso was forced to sit out the 2015 Australian season-opener on medical advice after suffering concussion in a February testing crash in Spain, but McLaren say he is now ready to drive in Kuala Lumpur subject to clearance from F1 governing body the FIA.

"McLaren-Honda is pleased to announce that, subject to a successful final FIA medical assessment this Thursday 26th March at the Sepang International Circuit, Fernando Alonso will return to the cockpit of his MP4-30 car for this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix," the team said in a statement.

"Since his Barcelona testing accident, Fernando has followed a rigorous, specialised training programme, designed and closely monitored by leading sports scientists, to ensure his safe and timely return to racing."
McLaren said that Alonso could recall a "sense of 'heavy' steering" prior to his accident, and that as a result an additional sensor will be fitted to their cars.
"At the McLaren Technology Centre last week, Fernando met with his engineers and drove the simulator, to bring him up to date with the latest developments on the MP4-30 chassis and power unit," the team explained.
"As part of that process he spent time with senior engineers, discussing the accident and reviewing the comprehensive data and analysis, all of which has been shared with the FIA.
"While there was nothing evident in the extensive car telemetry data, nor anything abnormal in the subsequent reconstructions and laboratory tests, Fernando recalls a sense of 'heavy' steering prior to the accident. Consequently, the team has fitted an additional sensor to the car, to increase our data capture.
    Cheers, Tiny

At least the rain might sooth some of the sunburnt poms at Sepang

Was interesting to hear the SKY broadcast team talk about F1 TV rights.
Seems England and Germany have followed Australia this year, with the F1 being on Pay TV in those countries and taken away from FTA.
(Same with MotoGP to for that matter)

They were already talking about the drop in viewers, hence drop in advertising exposure and the obvious knock on effects.

From what I've seen so far, FTA viewers aren't missing out on anything with F1 or V8SC... we still get what we used to get, it just isn't 'live' now? That may change I guess, but it seems to me like foxtel just whipped up a scare campaign trying to attract more paying customers?

IMO it's not worth fifty bucks a month just to see something six hours earlier!

There is no V8SC FTA option this weekend, just a delayed highlights package.
Hardly the same thing a few hours later.

So not only don't you get the races in full, you don't get the support races at all.

I've never had foxtel so maybe I don't know what I'm missing, but I saw all I wanted to see in the highlights last night.

Channel ten was never that good for support races anyway, you're better off watching Speedweek on SBS for them.

I am watching live right now on the German FTA channel RTL and BBC is showing this race live too.
Enjoying German commentary and background info but can switch to BBC (also on Zattoo) in the ad breaks.
If anybody interested and has UNOtelly goto zattoo.com, UNOTelly setting zattoo turbo to Switzerland.

Hope Ferrari wins. Vettel could do it. First tire change is not necessary if you are out front and can nurse the tires.
    Then maybe rain later ?

    VETTEL / Ferrari is back!

First win for Ferrari since ancient times and therefore emotionally is the jubilation for Vettel and his crew. And for Mercedes, it's the first defeat since Spa 2014 and it is especially bitter, because Mercedes was defeated on the race track and not due to technical problems.

As long as you're happy with your delayed add packed coverage that's fine with me.

Personally I like it live & ad free. Not 1 single ad in last nights F1 race (apart from track signage) & only a couple of banner ads at bottom of screen in the V8 races & supports over the weekend
