the honda and yamaha inverter units are both good.
however the yamaha is prone to blocking up the baffle/spark arrester if they are not cleaned very regularly.
this upsets the auto govenor and can lead to overloading and burning out the inverter.
yamaha won't cover this under warranty.

As has been already observed, it really depends upon your power needs. I purchased a cheapie genset to keep the freezer running in case of a power outage. In 10 years it has been used precisely nonce! Whenever the power has gone out, here, it has only been for an hour or so. If it were Darwin, post cyclone, I'd be spending my money on the best one available.

The recent storms (April) here near Newcastle gave our Honda good run. Used from about 7am till 8pm non stop for 7 days. Powered a pigeon pair Fischer Paykel 420L fridge and freezer, 47" LCD TV and digtal recorder, plus some lights. Glad I had it :-)
