    Default Harmony 650

I decided that I would reduce the number of remotes so I purchased a Harmony 650.

Set it up to operate the set top box and the TV - so far so good.

Are all these remotes the genuine article? The reason I ask is that I am getting ridiculously low battery life.

The batteries in the original remotes lasted about their normal shelf life. What "life" should I expect from the Harmony?

What are the best brand/type for maximum life?

They have a color LCD screen which obviously uses a lot of power. When not using the remote, put it down and dont hold it. If it senses movement, the screen will light up. I recharge the rechargeables in mine probably twice a year ? Maybe 3 times ?

I also have an older Harmony with the "black and white" screen and batteries last literally years in it.

My "Important Information" states, "The non-rechargeable alkaline batteries ..."

My unit seems to be very battery voltage critical - the two batteries in it at the moment both read 1.4V and I keep getting the Harmony "welcome" routine. PITA.

In other words I would be almost certain that rechargeables would not work in my unit.

I have been using rechargeables in mine for the 3 or so years I have had it.

Nope, just run of the mill rechargeable batteries.

I dont use the remote much, just to turn on the tv in the morning and turn it off at night with one channel change at 6Pm for the news.

The 2 x Ni-MH batteries are in and working - I am pleasantly surprised.

They are only 600mAH so will be interesting to see how long the charge lasts.
