    Default Some Ex-ABC Gear :)

    Hi Guys
Last time I was here setting up my Tuxed Humax IRCI-5400Z, and it’s still receiving the unencrypted ABC, and some of the stupid shopping, etc.
It looks like the ABC for each state, as the same variety (of ABC) isn’t available on our Foxtel IQ box IIRC.

Anyways, I picked up some ex-ABC stuff that went to auction today, and last fortnight as well.
Some Sony PVM monitors, and today some Tandberg TT1220 receiver/decoders. These are probably only SD as well,
but have interesting options in the menu.. no on-screen menu at all, it’s setup with the LCD display and arrow keys.
In fact they look broken until set up correctly because the video output is just raw from whatever video DAC.
The errors not he LCD are to do with he second audio channel settings that I haven’t changed from the ABC’s settings yet.

You can see the names of some services on them in the wider shot.
One of these is connected to an LNB, and the other has a digital input (called ASI) provided by the first decoder.
The picture on the monitor is coming from the second box not directly connected to the LNB.
I don’t know what happens if the first box switches polarity.

They have a mode called “Hunt Mode” but I haven’t noticed it do anything if set to on. I hope this is a blind scan function.
There is more I don’t yet understand how to operate, one question though..
When I entered the usual settings, LNB freq, Sat freq, FEC, etc.
That was enough for all previous decoders I’ve owned to come up with a channel bouquet.
For these, I had to enter video PID, audio PID, and PMT for the decoder not directly connected,
and at least a channel ID for the decoder that is directly connected to LNB.

I got this information from the Humax:

How would one usually obtain this information? with blind scan?
Why does the Humax and other decoders not require the user to set these?
    Cheers, Art.

looks like you're having fun Art
know nothing about these Tandberg units but
this manual might help > or
the info your humax displays I gather would be through the DVB-S standard

Pretty sure they don't have a blindscan option. Cheaper and easier to buy a HD satellite receiver. It will do everything and more.

Looking into it further is looks like “Hunt Mode” is just for looking for the first service basically what the Humax does.
A blind scan function might be possible if the serial control protocol was public information, since there are alarms for
    signal not being present, etc.

It’s not really about TV, just an afterthought because the decoders were $12 each. Good PSUs if nothing else.
I have nine of the monitors now, they are for retro computers and running arcade machine boards.
So I thought why not run Rage on a spare screen on the weekends.. etc.

I was too busy being a connesuir or retro gear to pay attention,
but I previously heard some hip hop about Budget debt & deficit disaster inherited from the previous Government,
but I haven’t seen it come up on iTunes yet.
