It'll work as long as you keep providing energy to turn it which will be equal to the load on the generator plus the system losses.

I hope you're not suggesting some sort of overunity/ free energy device because there are some very well proven laws that need to broken for this to work.

A 'magnet' generator was what we used on bicycles years ago.
A wire wound armature spinning inside a ring shaped permanent magnet and put out 6v 3w from memory.
The generator was driven by either the front or back wheel and of course, the faster it turned, the brighter the light.
You knew when you engaged the generator against the wheel and I have wondered just how much 'energy' it took to run it.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

Those little bicycle dynamos are pretty efficient so the input required would be equal to the output load plus 10-20% or thereabouts. A typical incandescent tail lamp bulb was 6V 50ma (0.3W) and headlamp around the 2W mark but you can get much better performance these days using LEDs so the peddling would be much easier now.

Maybe I jumped on this topic prematurely thinking it was just another entrant in the endless quest to build a self running motor-generator IE the hopeless quest for free energy using some mystical arrangement of magnets, coils and bottletops (it'll never work except for on utube .

Skepticist, Thanks for that as I knew it was a lower wattage but couldnt remember what.
Back then most came with a very small tail light that used an even lower wattage globe but it did reduce the output of the Headlight so on steep hills I used to disconnect it.
As you say today LED's appear to have surpassed the luminance of incandescent globes and consume far less energy in doing so.
I too thought posting was along the lines of 'Perpetual Motion' which like converting Lead to Gold I read avidly while dreaming of finding El Dorado and the Fountain of Perpetual Youth, ahh well, One can Dream cant one?
