Wonder what Law firm they are using in Oz. I could just imagine watching the news one night and seeing someone that's on the edge and one of his kids downloaded something when the parents did not have a clue only to be hit with a hefty bill sending this person off the edge only for the person to retaliate by spraying the greedy Lawyers with lead.

I fairly narrow list of downloaders they have targeted.
Seems like a bit of piss and wind to me.
But it will be interesting how far they pursue their legal rights, if they trying to make an example out of this case.

Now its been tested and proven, might open a few flood gates for future actions.

Just because the file was called 'Dallas Buyer's Club' doesn't mean it was.
It could've been a renamed 'Debbie Does Dallas' for all they know.

Unless they were all downloaded from the same source.

Given the complete lack of knowledge by nearly all concerned, the innocent will be targeted...I guarantee it.

The thing that amuses me is its such a boring bland movie, I certainly thought so based on the small amount I was able to watch.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

I still wonder how that will occur, the amount of Parents with a Home ADSL Wifi have No Idea what their kids are up too, or their kids friends that come to visit, or what happens when they leave the home for day, week, etc.....

Totally agree with you there, of all the Block Busters they could have picked, and they choose a B Grade, Straight to DVD movie.... amazing.

Obviously the Jews are restless for some money in Hollywood land.

Even Wifi with Password protection, big fn deal, how many people that visit have your password, or kids, and who knows what friends they pass it onto.
Oh i know, everyone of their friends that visit!
Telstra Modems have the password printed on the modem for christ sake

Its not even a joke, i see it every day!
1 ADSL WiFi connection may have a dozen transient clients.

The letter will be a warning, thats it....
I guess if you get done 6 times, it might and i mean might, stand a chance in court.... even then i'd doubt it.
More like the ISP would just drop you.

Chasing, Policing and/or prosecuting end users is a pointless exercise.
    It always has been.
How about they chase the reason and/or source of the uploaded file in first place.

The whole thing is a scare tactic at best.
Although they have had some success in the US and UK in extracting money

Well, my mate downloaded it, and we share the same internet (Internode). So, because it's in my name, I am expecting to get the letter. I will of course pass it onto him (he admitted that he d/loaded it - cant for the life of me understand why !).
I'll post the letter when I get it

    Cheers.
When I was a kid, I used to have an imaginary friend. I thought he went everywhere with me. I could talk to him and he could hear me, and he could grant me wishes and stuff too. But then I grew up, and stopped going to church.

Here is a quote from the company that started the lawsuit ,

""If we start proceedings in Australia I will make it clear to local counsel 'you will not pursue the handicapped, welfare cases or people that have mental issues or the military' and that's the majority of what's going on with the download.

"We're very concerned about the press saying 'how dare Voltage pursue a military veteran or an autistic child' as that sort of press would ruin us. It's not about the money here, it's about stopping illegal piracy."

    End quote

I didnt download the movie, but I am with Iinet....but this seems to be the fine one might expect....

"Letters issued by the rights holders will be reviewed by the Judge to ensure they are not threatening - providing a significant safeguard for our customers. As a result, the ruling will put a major dent in the process and business case behind speculative invoicing, since the financial returns could be outweighed by the costs of legal action." Justice Perram supported this view with his comment, "It may well be that for single instances of infringement the damages are likely to be modest and quite possibly limited to the forgone licence fee that would have been paid, had the film been lawfully downloaded"

I guess it might come down to the Terms and Conditions in the fine print when you signed up to the ADSL connection.

Here we go again... Every year or so, a story like this get lots of air time from the media. It's always the same: "we've caught some very norti Internet pirates and we're going to make an example of them! This time, we really mean it!"... And then nothing happens... yet again.
