My late next door neighbour had a similar one and one thing we both found was how fast you had to walk with the engine at a high enough rev's to cut long or wet grass.
He had over a half an acre around the house that was pretty rough and most times he had to push it and it aint no lightweight so you knew you had done a days work when you finished.
The area was certainly no flat lawn even after he got it tidied up and if he didnt mow it regularly, off you went at a fast trot being dragged along behind the mower.
if your keen, look for a Gregory's workshop manual 220 that covers all Victa Rotary Mowers from 1955 t0 1984 including the self propelled one you have.

If you are not mechanically minded then Vroom's suggestion may be the best. I've managed to adapt all sorts of things in the past, so this may not seem too hard, to me but, unless you have a clue, it could be much more trouble than it is worth.
i have begun stripping the engine, it was siezed but after a few whacks it turns, it still has compression. am going to strip it right down and rebuild. Are victa pistons all the same size?
dont know where you live, but there is a pub on milperra rd milperra.
all the victa workers drank there, i wanted a new mower, i ordered it on monday and friday had a new mower that they built in the pub, this was some years ago, dont know if it still goes on now.
the hotel is on a slight rise on the right on the way into town, i think its on the cnr of edgar st.

removed the head, clean, no scoring, lubed up a bit cleaned again lube works fine i hope. but as i am not mechanically minded i am probably wrong
hoe I am trying to make one in aus. can i sell it back to you?
still there sortof , the company restructured ( sacked all the aussies ) about 6 years ago and now a line of Aisan women assemble and pack the mowers from parts kits made in China. Its one of those shonky "sheltered workshops" where companies recieve a govt grant for employing supposedly disabled workers. its all a scam , process workers there are able bodied aisan women who even drive to work. wouldnt surprise me if all the workers are claiming disability payments at the same time.

do i really have to replace all the gaskets and seals?
Yes; however the gaskets will be usable as a template to make new ones if you can't buy them.
The seals will mot likely be dried & cracked or perishing due to age & so will need replacing.
If you can't get the seals from Honda mower shop, try a , you would be surprised what they can match up with seals if you take them in & let them measure the seals & O rings.
It's all part of the fun.
Cheers, Tiny

The information is out there; you just have to let it in."
Gasket paper can be purchased in sheets of various types and thicknesses, use aviation non hardening brush on sealant to compliment them.
O rings can be purchased cheaply as can seals, i buy them in kits with many sizes, you will need the sample, it its heavily damaged when removed simply Mic up the bor where it sits and the shaft its sealing to.
Also check the fluid that the oring is sealing, as there are different oring ring and seal rubbers types, for example if sealing brake fluid you would need a seal or oring made of Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPDM) (as an example), price is not much diffrent to normal orings, you just need to know which type to use for the application.
Most bearing shops can help you with these parts.
Thank you all for the input. Since I rather enjoyed pulling it apart and wouldnt have a major prob if had to rebuild again. I am just going to oil the gaskets, whack it back together. and get the apprentice to try pulling it for a while if i can get him off the playstation. the starter was interesting, sproooiiinggg. AAHHH, expletive. will let you know how i get on, thanks again
will it go with no exhaust?
