another hit to uber bringing it more in line with taxi's, all uber drivers must register for gst and
lodge bas statements and pay the ATO the gst they collect. So Not only now will they
need to comply with the gst rules it will also mean that all they earn is know by the ato
and wont be able to not declare the earnings and as such pay income tax as well and if
they are doing it whilst getting the dole well that's a gonner for sure.

dont say linux if i wanted it id install it
Common sense prevailed.
They want to offer a service for monetary reward, earn money, pay your share of tax.
A no brainer.
Ill bet Uber itself wont be paying any tax as it would have based itself off shore.........another thing our laws need to address, ebay Aus, apple, microsoft etc all earn money from Australia yet pay little to no tax here.
Edit; of course they chase the little guys first, start chasing the big guys too......

I agree but looking from the outside in you can see the window the ATO is looking through
1: lets have it law that GST must be paid
2: now GST is involved no more monies being hidden from income tax
3: UBER WE KNOW HOW MUCH YOU EARNED PAY THE PIPER
unlike google ebay etc where working out the income to try and tax now with gst
collection bought into law the ato will now be able to work out exactly what
uber has made and be able to chase those tax's from them.
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it
And ill bet Uber itself wont pay a penny as its offshore, its the people working here that pay.
I pay ebay and paypal fees, yet i cannot claim any GST Credits on their services, yet im taxed, collect and pay GST on what i earn through them......and they provide a service here in Aus.
Well, UBER have finally done it
They now have full access to Pick up and Drop Off at Melbourne Airport.
Not sure what other AU Airports have done, but it wont be far away.
Taxis drivers have been blocking the access to Melb Airport
(obviously have nothing better to be doing)
Released from Tulla Airport:
You wait, the first lot of people that miss their flight and go on ACA or Today Tonight will just be another nail in the Taxi coffin.
Good time for Police to check all the Taxis Drivers licences too.
From the Tullamarine Website:
Uber will be charged a $4 per trip airport access charge, which Uber may choose to pass through to the passenger.

If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!

there were major protests last night , now this morning the airport has a few tow trucks on standby to remove the protestors.

Yeah, between the new "Arrive 3 hours early" for Int. flights and this protest, sure is making getting the Airport for an 8am flight painful.
Especially when you have a 2 hour drive to the airport.
Hopeful the Authorities deal with them swiftly.
Just another bad look for Taxi drivers
Airport had to see the writing was on the wall, Uber is a market they cant ignore.
The next thing that needs a look at, is Airport Parking, Tulla makes $400,000 a day in parking fees!
$147Mill a year!

Indian or Nigerian take away , take your pick!
ive only worked in Melbourne a few times and its damn difficult to get to Tulla on time as it is. I had to return a hire car once and there was a 30 minute delay just outside the terminal. another time the congestion was so bad the shuttle bus was delayed . no train link or anything like that its only year 2017.
Adelaide Airport has had the same problems. In some ways I am sympathetic to the Taxi driver's plight. If Uber are to be permitted to compete, a point I have no issue with, they must be on a level playing field. Either under the same rules as the Taxi industry, or the Taxi industry under the same rules as Uber. There certainly seems to be no issue with Private Hire Cars or Shuttle Buses.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
The ironic thing is, the amount of Taxi drivers using Uber and WhatsApp to book fairs, then not tell the parent company about the rides.
They are eating from the same tree now, they just wanted their cake and eat it too.

DES for $$$ more rewarding and zero tax
Spent yesterday having lunch with a Yellow Cabs Taxi business owner.
Was an interesting conversation....
In point form, this seems to be where the industry is today.
- UBER is now banned in many European Countries
- A Taxi Licence in Australian can be purchased for $50, anyone can buy one and slap their phone number on the vehicle (get commercial Rego $1500, Police check)
- If you want to be part of 13CABS dispatch, that will cost you $150,000.
- It has cost the Australian Gov estimated $12Billion to legalise UBER (A Private Company) or should that read, AU Gov have lost $12b.
- Traditional Taxis make a lot of their income from DVA, TAC, etc, not sure if Uber Drivers are eligible for this?

Interesting.....
Full of the normal amount of ABC BS... but somewhat interesting anyway
The company valuation at the end of the show is eye opening.
