    Default simless mobile phones.

if you can withdraw money at an atm without a card using your access numbers.
i'm pretty sure they can make a phone, you enter some numbers and activate....

so why aren't they doing it?

    analogue and cdma are simless......

Sprint in the usa uses cdma and 4g phones with no sim, just an esn....

most upmarket usa cars use audio head units with esn for satellite radio and cdma data, just need to activate them on a plan online.

can you move the esn from 1 phone to another ? (when you upgrade to a newer phone) so you details and telephone number stay the same.

That will depend on the maker, carrier and any Government regulations regarding the use and registration of a mobile phone.

Many Countries have those 'Pay as you Go' as they call it where you can buy a phone ready to use with no ID etc but it was decided here to make the identity of the user compulsory to avoid fraudulent use but where theres a Con possible, someone will think of it.

This is what I'm talking about:

"SIM cards might soon go down the same path as tube TVs and floppy disks and become a thing of the past with Apple and Samsung leading the push to abolish the chip and replace it with an e-SIM"
