Default HDMI Splitters on Foxtel IQ Boxes ... do they work?

I am mucking around with leads and Ports of my new IQ Foxtel sub. Is it possible to use a HDMI spliiter like the below???

Some other ebay listings seem to indicate for similar or same devices that this is not possible when using Foxtel

That one doesn't state it's HDCP compliant.

Apart from splitting, what do you wish to do with it.... eg: send to a different room via a long HDMI cable?

I've had success with distributing Foxtel over Cat6 via an HDMI matrix switcher with Cat6/HDMI baluns.

Yes. I use one similar to this from an IQ HD.

One output goes to the TV. Another goes to a recorder with a HDMI input. HDCP is stripped in the process, allowing full 1080 recording.

You can of course use the 4-output model using only two outputs.

For the initial split on my system I use this from Jaycar

Foxtel IQ - splitter input - splitter output1 to HDMI switch - splitter output2 to Primary TV
The HDMI switch controls the signal output to all the other rooms - I use this one .
In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

What do you want to do with it? I use a 1 input to 2 output to get copies of recorded programs with my Hauppauge HDPVR2. The problem is that most of the splitters don't strip HDCP from the second output - so any recording device doesn't see any content.

I use this splitter...it DID NOT cost even a quarter of this ridiculous price....but it does strip HDCP. Do a search and I'm sure you will find something cheaper.

The recorder is one of these...you need a compatible USB drive.

One of the other members of this forum bought one as well. He downloaded a firmware upgrade that permitted recording of HDCP content, eliminating the splitter....

I use a splitter to send one signal to another room via HDMI and one to my TV in lounge. When I got my IQ3 box, my old splitter is used for IQ2 did not work.
I bought this one I got it locally just in case it did not work and I could return it. It works perfectly and seems to strip the DHCP, as I have recorded programs with a Game Capture HD device.

    Hey guys,

Sorry to up an old post...but can someone explain this to me?

    Setup 1:
Denon AVR 2113 amp with Foxtel IQHD2. I connect my IQ box via HDMI into a basic HDMI splitter (1 input x 4 output) - just a cheapo $50 item from ebay... One of the outputs goes into the amp...and this works flawlessly. The second output I connect to a HDMI balloon (HDMI extendeder). This balloon device accepts HDMI input then is converted to 2 x RJ45 (CAT6) meaning I can connect through data terminals in my house. In a separate room where these RJ45 points terminate, is where I want to "extend" or split my Foxtel signal to which effetcively means my 'main room' TV has the same video output as the other room in the house. To fully achieve this, the other room requires a couple more CAT6 cables from the wall into the RECEIVING end of the HDMI balloon, then connects HDMI out into the HDMI port of my 2nd room TV. Hopefully I have explained this carefully enough....but that *WORKED*. Essentially this allows me to watch Foxtel in another room without the need of running HUGE amounts of coax cable to reposition the box, or the need for a 2nd box AT ALL.

Fast forward to now, I've upgraded my amp and reconnected Foxtel after a 6 month break...

    Setup 2:
Now using Denon X4300H (new 2017 model) with the *EXACT* same setup above. No image, no video or audio, no pass through. I've changed the settings on my IQ box under HDMI settings to "pass through" as well as "1080i" and it makes no difference. There's very little advanced settings on the amp I can change...but I am open to suggestions. I would have imagined this amp, which is 4 years 'newer', has more HDMI channel inputs, more speaker channels at a higher power rating should mean that it has all the OLD features plus more. Is this a splitter issue, or some sort of weird config issue on the amp that is preventing pass through?

Visually, imagine [FOXTEL BOX] ----HDMI cable ------ [splitter INPUT BOX]

Then, from [splitter box, HDMI OUT1] ----HDMI cable -------HDMI IN balloon converts to 2 x RJ45 CAT6 ----- CAT6 cables into wall x

From x wall in the other room -----2 x CAT6 cables--------[into HDMI balloon receiver]-------HDMI cable ------ into 2nd room TV HDMI input

The above USED TO achieve Foxtel in 2nd room. I'd also then use [splitter box, HDMI OUT2] ----- HDMI cable -------[AMP HDMI port]

The above scenario WORKS in Setup 1, but won't work in set-up 2.

    here's my splitter:

Does this mean my splitter NOW must be HDCP compliant? Has there been Foxtel firmware updates preventing the use of such splitting devices? Am I missing something on the amps config? I should mention, those familiar with the new X4300H model - you can actually have DUAL HDMI MONITOR ooutput, a very handy feature, or even a separate ZONE 2 HDMI video output. I've tried running a HDMI cable from both of these ports into the HDMI baloon > CAT6 cables into wall > other room CAT 6 cables into HDMI baloon receiver > HDMI cable into TV and this still doesn't work.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks
    JamesC

Yes, the splitter needs to be HDCP compliant. (or at least able to make the fox box think it is)

    Do you have Foxtel iQ?

Did you read this in the eBay description in your link to the splitter you have?

"Note: this splitter doesn't support Foxtel IQ series, if you need one for IQ set top box, please check this listing:"

Hi mtv, thanks for the response.

If that is the case, can you then explain why the previous setup (everything identical, except AMP) that setup was working?

This tells me it's the amp or a setting...if not that, then it has to be some sort of Foxtel IQHD upgrade.

Yes, I have IQHD box (larger black one).

As for the splitter on Ebay - I don't believe I purchased from that seller, but the look/design/outputs in a metallic body are identical to the one I have. This looks to be the one I have:

As you will note in the above listing, it does mention
Compatibility: HDCP complaint and supports all kinds of HDMI sources including cable box, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, Blu-ray, DVD player, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, Apple TV, DVR, PC etc and HDMI displays including HDTV, projector and PC monitor

Unless HDCP has changed from this time in 2016 to now?

    Perhaps I wasn't clear enough.

There have been a lot of Foxtel firmware changes.

I don't think it's your amp specifically... more like the splitter is the main issue.

Id put it down to firmware updates then. Whether the exact same splitter was used before or after the Foxtel box plugs into the amp is not making a difference. The last attempt I can try using the old amp, which I still have...

Mine still works fine. I only use two of the outputs...one to the HD PVR, and one to the TV. HDCP is stripped in the process (or emulated, dunno which)...

I just want to run to tvs in other rooms without swapping cables behind the iq2, so i would image if you can get a tv picture and record at the same time it should be ok

    cheers thomo
