I've just bought a N88 from dealexteme - they're meant to be the best iphone clone in way of speed and functionality - it only has 1gb of memory (no SD slot), but an 8gb version is available from fastcardtech....i would have preferred the 8gb phone, but DX have free shipping and instead of just 50$ more, it would have cost like $130 extra.

The N88 has java, as does the sciphone (another good clone). Many clones lack java, but this is hardly a big deal especially considering many java apps will not work with the iphone (only 2 buttons).

Clones vary greatly in cost and quality, and you get what you pay for. So long as your not expecting it to be something that it's not, then you should be happy. Just make sure you don't get a phone which has poor touch ability (pressing screen).

Checkout youtube for some videos comparing the clones - some even have side by side caparison with the iphone.

China has almost finished their 3g network and once this is publicly available there will be a great impetus for clone 3g phones. There are no chinese 3g iphone clones atm.

    Cheers, RHCP.

i have bought two different iphone clones.. both dont have java.. but i guess thats what you pay for. although one does have the tilt function which was good.

in the end if your looking for looks, then clones are alright. but if you looking for functionability, they usually dont stand up against the real deal

I bought the p168+ 5 button model. Kept unlocking itself in my pocket. Too physically big for me. Sending sms was too slow writing it on the screen and could not change sms alert to a user tone(ie:mp3).
What happens if I press alt + F4?

Did a bit of further googling about these iphone clones,
P168 without java costs around $150.
    P168++ with java costs ~ $190.
Cect (Daxian) T32 with Windows Mobile 6.0, WiFi & up to 8Gb costs ~$350 newer Cect (Daxian) T32+ has the forementioned features + inbuilt GPS for around $390. All prices as per ebay

The last version looks the goods

My N88 arrived this week and it is absolutely awesome. Far better than what i expected. Does everything i need and the txt messaging is great!

The screen isn't quite as sensitive as the iphone, but it is still very good. After a little while you pickup a few tricks which are handy when scrolling through menus or text - scrolling through menus or mp3/picture lists may seem somewhat hit and miss or annoying if you don't know them. The touch is also pressure & heat dependent so stylus pens don't work.

Build quality is good and battery life seems great; the phone has been on for 19 hours and is still fully charged. Bluetooth is on by default and this really chews through the batteries - the phone only lasts about 10-12 hours with bluetooth on. I never really chat on a mobile and am yet to talk to anyone at length with this phone, so i can't say how this effects the battery.

It plays music well and the quality of the speaker is better than my previous samsung phone and it's also considerably louder to boot. Been listening to music for the last 10 mins and it hasn't effected the battery yet.

Character/writing recognition is pretty accurate, but unfortunately it only recognises one letter at a time and i'm not sure if there is a setting to adjust the wait time between entering a letter and confirming it....so it isn't really that practical.

The camera seems decent enough, i think it is 1.2 MP - but the quality seems better than this. The camera does seem to use a bit of the battery, but i never use the camera anyway.

The phone has a proximity sensor which is pretty accurate - during a call this will turn off the screen if an object (your head) comes within about 10 cm or so.

Anyway, I'm completely blown away by it.

    Cheers, RHCP.

you have to search for WAP settings on the net for telstra.. i remember i had to do that once.. but i cant remember where i found it.

just google something like "telstra WAP settings"

Ive got the T32 which runs WM6 & managed to get gprs running with telstra this way

settings > connections > connections > add new modem > call it 'Telstra' for a name....Select 'Cellular GPRS' for a modem > Access Point name 'telstra.wap' > did'nt need to enter any other data...just press 'next' then 'finish'

Your menu structure maybe different to mine, I was able to navigate with google maps ok with these settings so I guess they worked ok

My problem with the T32 is I can't get the blasted internal GPS chip to be recognised by TomTom.....it does have the 'Compass' chip onboard. I have of course quizzed the ebay seller about the settings, but so far his/her's command of our lingo is sadly wanting
