    Default I Want a GPS

Had just starting reading up on GPS etc and was starting to read the thread on the Deal Extreme GPS which was a long thread and then unfortunatly the server died etc as we know. Just a couple of questions?

I want one that can put on multiple maps, hack etc. The Deal Extreme one the way to go, or are there better units for this?
Are the Deal Extreme ones 138 bucks delivered, if so they are cheap!!
Does it take long to arrive from USA?

    Cheers
    NB

The Deal Extreme units come from China and take about 2 weeks from the placement of the order. They're US$138 and worked out to be AU$160 for me at the time. Or you can pay a little extra and get the one with a 2gig card and USA maps. Apparently that one comes with TomTom installed so you just have to pop the Aus maps on the card. On my unit I have TomTom, iGo, MioMap and Route66. I use GS Finder to choose which app I want to use but most of the time I've been using MioMap. They're a great little unit for the price.

Just curious why would I buy the one with USA maps on it? Guess I am only paying for the 2gig card, probably not worth it ?

    Cheers

It also has TomTom pre loaded so you'd just add the Aussie map and you're off. But If you already have a spare SD card and want to load your own Nav apps then save your money. That's what I did

Was abit trickier for some of us to get the $138 unit working with tomtom whereas the one supplied with the the 2 gig card and tomtom installed just needs the Aust maps added.

As the prices are in US$, how do I know how much it will cost in A$ without going thru the order. If it is too dear will not buy it.

    Cheers

Just whatever the exchange rate is on the day. No other hidden charges / taxes or anything.

I use google for it. In the google search box type...

    15 usd in aud

    And google will answer with

    15 U.S. dollars = 17.0590242 Australian dollars

Since I am using firefox I have set up google search a keyword search of "g". So in my address bar I type

    g 15 usd in aud

About the most efficient way I think.

PayPal will confirm the amount in AUD before you commit to the sale anyway.
