    Default Member Welfare

Occasionally long term or regular posters disappear or drop out on Austech. In the past, I have on occasions shot them an email to see if they are ok. Mostly people have other commitments in life that they have to prioritise at times, ie, spending less time online due to family commitments etc. Thats fine of course. But occasionally some may drop off our radar for more serious reasons such as health, so I would encourage members to take the time to send a PM (members normally get an email alert that they have a PM) or email to any regular posting member that disappears for no reason.

It doesnt have to be nosy, just "Hey, havent seen you on Austech much lately, how are things ? "

I cant and wont be spending as much time as what I have in the past on Austech, and it would be great to see others start stepping up to the plate on things like this. Austech is a community, YOU are Austech and I would hope that people might do this without me prompting.

For any newer members, we had a grumpy old bastard of a member called Beer4life go missing last year and unfortunately he had passed away.

Despite Bill's gruff character, he did enjoy Austech a lot according to his brother Ken, a point he made on Bill's headstone.

Anyway, I dont want to turn this in to a rant as most of my requests to members to step up get ignored. But I would like members to keep it in mind, it only takes a couple of minutes.

yes you are right . however very few people say anything if they get sick , and maybe they should say more if they need support.

Its funny you should post this, another forum i'm a member of had a regular poster not log in a few days, which started a post about him and if anyone had seen him.
It went on for 2 weeks, with no word..... And quite a few members getting concerned.

Eventually a message got back he was in Ireland somewhere. So nothing untoward.
At least its nice to be missed and have people looking out for you.
For some people, there is probably more interest and concern than from with in their own family.

It is a sad fact of forum life that members come and go for no apparent reason. We do make friends online of people with whom we'd never meet in RL sort of like Pen Pals of our youth. It does help to have "meet and greet" days to put faces to names but sometimes things like this are impractical. My only suggestion is to advise those you are close with of your membership of various fora, and request that they advise us if something occurs to take you away from your "commitments".
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

Ive disappeared a few times, once for quite a while, i think a few months from memory.

Was more a case of needing to get off the Austech drugs and do something else with my spare time.

Now i only pop in a little in the morning and evening to see whats up.

This problem occurred in the now defunct Yahoo Chat Rooms, obviously in those where members were over a certain age for them to either be of ill health or from Passing away as one very popular user did one day by doing so at the keyboard !!!!
In surprisingly many cases, most of their families had no idea they 'belonged' to a Chatroom and again many of those Family members didnt themselves use a Computer, at least not in that way so it never occurred to them to advise people they had no idea existed that the person had died.
In many cases it was only because some had established personal contacts with each other and it was only after that person called on the family to find out why the user wasnt online, it became known of their passing.
One person did establish a 'Memorial Page' and listed those who had died (before Geocities closed, I counted 60 names I was familiar with) over a 5 year period.
My Wife doesnt use the Computer in this way and has no idea of Austech or anything else I do online and I am not sure if my Computer user Son is aware of either.

About 4 years ago I quit PalTalk and although I told those I knew I was doing so, I heard there were inquiries made by intermittent users asking what had happened to me.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

Ok so I have tried to contact member as I noticed he hasn't been posting for a while. last post 27/1/15.

sent PM about a month ago, no replies.

He has been a major contributor to this forum thru general chat posting & Tutorials in the GPS forum.

I hope he is OK, anyone else here know of him or how to contact him to see if he is OK??

He stopped posting after some disagreements to what he was saying in the Ambulance Service Thread.
I assumed he'd taken his bat and ball and went home.

Edit: He's still alive, he posted a video on youtube a month ago.

    Tiny,

Downunder35m last visited Austech on 17 July 2015.

I may be wrong, but I think biggerdave and lemonfish may know him.

    Perhaps they can advise.

I actually have contact with some forum members on facebook, so it's likely that they would be aware of anything untoward happening as that medium is like a weed, stuff spreads everywhere without you having to do anything about it.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
