    Default Teeth

As I sit in in agony with a severe toothache and wait for a painkiller to kick in, I thought why not have a tooth discussion to take my mind off the pain ?

How many members have all their own teeth and how many dont ? And how many wish they didnt have their own teeth ?

Mine are under serious decline unfortunately. As I take painkillers for my back and neck, they dry your mouth out a lot causing less saliva and increasing bacteria in your mouth. I did get a fair bit of work done on them a few years ago under the Chronic Disease/Condition federal scheme, until it got rorted and closed down.

Its unfortunate that dental is so expensive in Australia and I can see why people go overseas to get work done. My sister (2 years younger than me) borrowed 7K a couple of years ago for dental.......its just not affordable to many and I can see why people just say rip them out and give me dentures.

So whats the state of play in your mouth ?

got all mine except for 2....

just been to the dentist for the first time in a while.

root canal etc. to save 1 , about 2.5k plus 2 normal fillings , $450.....

good news is that all mine have very good attachments to my jawbones, no osteoporosis etc...

works out at around $450/h, if i had time i would go to thailand and have it done at Bumrungrad hospital....

I have a mouth full of a few real ones, a couple of porcelain ones and huge gaps elsewhere that make smiling embarrassing. I should have them all out. I CAN afford it, but I keep having other issues that consume any loot I have.

I've always had bad teeth. Some of my earliest memories are of a masked Josef Mengele sticking various implements of torture into my mouth.....
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

im almost 51 , got all my teeth except for 2. about 5 years ago one had to come out , and i needed a general anesthetic first , which added $1k to the bill ( and wasnt covered ) .
there is a free clinic at the local hospital but the waiting list is miles long.

my sister went to thailand for major crowns and bridges work , and was very happy with the result , at 25% of the local cost , all organised by a travel medical company.

have had a issues with my teeth from a kid , now have 2 broken ones and
missing a few but the cost to put crowns or implants is ridiculous and they
want 3k to remove the 2 broken ones which i cant afford.

in time i will like most end up doing a trip overseas to get it all sorted
the hardest part will be needing the wife there with me as i have a
debilitating fear of needles and pass out walking in to get blood tests.
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it

I have way more filling material in my mouth than actual tooth material. Many years ago I had one that needed a root canal then a crown. 6 months and two grand later I had to pay to have it extracted as the root had a crack that was unable to be seen on xray.

Still have the rest of them although I have been told I can't ever have dentures because of some weird gum condition I have so I better take care of 'em.

Have had 9 teeth replaced including 2 that were removed when I was 20 and a couple of repairs, total cost about $1200 all done in China, would hate to think what it would cost to get done here

48 years old and I have all my teeth and two fillings from my 20's.

Never had much dental care as a kid, so my bottom teeth are a bit crooked. But in good condition.

Iv'e got all mine. One has the second biggest filling you'll ever see lol. It was a freebee from when living with a dental nurse the the dentist just worked at the surgery. He said he's never put so much amalgum (spelling?) into a tooth. I think is was about 3 times the amount of a normal filling.

There's nothing like a bad toothache to get your attention and you need to knock yourself out with painkillers to even sleep. I've lost quite a few rear teeth due to abcesses but what's left are still all my own (no false ones yet). Had large repair work with the latest composite material done on one just a few days ago and it's hurting like a mongrel right now. If it doesn't settle down real soon it'll have to go as well so hoping for a happy ending once more.

My parents both had all their teeth replaced at around 40yo with dentures so I'm doing well at mid 60s and no dentures yet (touch wood). Implants are the way to go now but the cost is out of this world.

I had all my own teeth until after the accident in 2001. Owning to severe facial palsy afterwards the saliva in my mouth rapidly ate my teeth. I now have dentures top and bottom, fortunately, courtesy of the motor accident insurance. The palsy has, largely, disappeared but I do still have a few issues. Personally, they are a minor nuisance but would prefer my own teeth.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

If you shop around (dental schools in phila) implants here can be as cheap as $1,000 usd, full set of dentures around $800usd.

You can also volunteer at those dental schools for free basic dental care fillings extractions and such!

The bacteria that infect a tooth can easily be destroyed with heat. 45˚C can wipe most of them them out.
The question is how to apply and bare the heat if you already have the pain. An infra red lamp might help, even a hot water bottle on the cheek. I have used a small regulated hot air gun. Never been to the dentist or had serious pain since. If an abscess does not resolve in a few days antibiotics are a must.

Im missing 2, and have crooked teeth, no dental issues.

No im not a collingwood supporter.

Admin, get some strong Vodka and swirl it around the tooth (swallowing is a bonus) if you dont have tooth ache drops to help numb it.

The Listerine mouth wash I use destroys most bacteria also. I did a microscope slide culture of saliva before and after Listerine. The slides were left to culture for a couple of days at body temperature. The Slide before Listerine showed many bacteria colonies - as in billions of rods. The saliva slide taken a half hour after Listerine and cultured under the same conditions showed only one type of Bacillus bacteria survived, and it was slow to multiply.

Wow, certainly a collection of teething woes there with most showing how unaffordable dentistry is......and a lot of how much price scamming goes on.
Interesting re: anaesthetic price that vroomvroom mentioned, they are certainly adding a whack on there. The last time I had surgery in a private hospital (not teeth), the anaesthetic was seperate and I had to ring them directly and get a quote for it for surgery. From memory it was $180 or something similar....I remember being pleasantly surprised, so I dont know how they have the front to come up with 1k.

Mine are probably all saveable due to the extensive work a couple of years ago. I have 1 missing, like many others have mentioned, a screw in is just not an affordable option and I dont know how they can even justify the price.
