Default Is Channel 7 transmitting Olympics in 1080p?

Channel 7 doesnt have their usual little 7hd logo on the
bottom on the 7HD channel during the Olympics.
Can anyone confirm that they are actually transmitting full 1080p?

    1. 1080p Bahahahahahahaah
2.. Since when did any Australian broadcaster start streaming 1080p?
    3. I think there are enough watermarks on the screen without another one, i alreadty have pixel burn from the 5 rings.
    4. Why don't you press the INFO button on your remote and read what the OSD tells you
    5. No.... and it's not even full 1080i if truth be known.

    Exactly

    The Channel 7 Feed on D1 is 16:9 625i 50

Which should be great for fast moving pics, but it is sure not 1080i.

I have a hd television and you can certainly tell the difference between ch7 and ch 70 (hd channel).
So they are transmitting a higher def but I do not know how high.

7 HD tranmission is 1080i (it has to be, it never changes)
That is not really where the problem lies tho.
What is the source material before it is locally re broadcast on 7 HD?
Sure it can be upscalled, and it clearly is.... but we as comsumers are kind of getting dupt with HD, little bit of smoke and mirrors never hurt anyone right

In saying that 7 HDs broadcast may be the best possible viewing we can get (Re. Pic Quality), but a good 1080i/1080p display will show the short comings in such upscaling practises.

The real pity is, it is being filmed in Full HD at the event.

7 are a joke. Friday night AFL isn't transmitted in FULL 1080P hd either.
You only have to watch the footy on Ch10 on Saturday nights to see what
a huge difference in quality between the crappy Ch7 transmission and CH10.
It pisses me off that consumers are getting ripped off and the accc allows retailers to fool consumers into believing they are getting the best quality HD picture.

I constantly see ads for tv's that are "HD Ready". Yeah right
    lcd's that are 1368 x 780 only upscale 780p to 1080i (with a hd receiver)
so you never actually get full hd.
They should have to state that they are not capable of displaying Full 1080P
    HD.

My inlaws recently wanted to buy 2x 32" LCD's and were fed the biggest load of crap from sales assistance in all the shops they went to.
For god's sake they're in their 60's. Why is it car manufacturers can't mislead about their product (excluding petrol consumption hehehe) but these assholes can.
(I advised them to get 2 Sony bravias that were full 1080p and I got one
of the free ps3's woo hoo)

Anyway back to bitching....Pay tv operators also have fooled their customers
    by advertising
"switch to the new digital tv, it's fantastic"
The reality is poxtel and crapstar on an lcd or plasma produces an absolutely
SHIT picture, most often less than standard def tv.

In conclusion....Screw you Ch7,Poxtel,Crapstar and any store that sells tv's too. I'm off to play my ps3 in 1080p!

Hey Bluey, you need to understand a couple of things mate.

    1. No broadcaster has EVER broadcast 1080p in Australia. 1080i is what 7,9,10 HD use. So it is unfair to blame anyone for not telecasting the footy in 1080p, that just shows your lack of understanding.

    2. The only 1080p content you are going to watch on your Sony is a Proper 1080p BlueRay movie or a 1080p PS3 game or some downloaded WMV9 HD, TS, H264 or other format that can handle 1080p.

To broadcast 1080p would be to double the bit rate of the already broadcast 1080i if you were to keep the same fps. I would actually love to know if it could even be done?

At the end of the day, if you don't like the pics, stand further away

P.S. And by the way, if you read ACMA definition of HD in Australia, i think you'll find the bar has been set very low. 576p and above used to be considered HD here, not sure if it has changed, i haven't looked in a while.

P.P.S. The words "Full HD" are just made up advertising jargin, they have no real definition or use (other than people believe it to mean 1080p) being the highest screen res in commonly sold TVs here is Oz.

    ocean boy,
    Isn't 1080i actually upscaled 720p?
I thought the "i" stood for interlaced and
    "p" was progressive.
Please don't tell me they are only broadcasting in 720p max! Arrrrrrrghhhh!

By the way I have a toppy 7000pvrt and that only supports 1080i too.
Wish I knew that when I bought it.
Saw the TIVO on tele the other day and went to the website.
That too is only 1080i. Funny how they don't mention that in the ad.
The only 1080P pvr that I have seen is the Toshiba.

You are correct about the definition of p & i. Thats about it though.
We haven't even got into fps, bitrates and compression rates yet.

Your Toppy only supports 1080i cos...ehhhhhh that is the highest res broadcast.

If you are really so upset it, go and buy a Sony Receiver (or better, a Dennon Receiver) which has 1080p upscalling onboard, then everything you watch will be 1080p

Well excuse me for being stupid.
I thought this forum was supposed to be where members could discuss these matters without being flamed.
If I'm being ignorant, maybe the 1% of the population that has your knowledge should also rip into me.
If you're going to have a smart ass "I'm better than you and you are stupid"
attitude, why respond to the post?

Would you like that in 1080p wierdo.... Or 720p MAX!!!

As for you Bluey, you were already guided and told what the formats are...... Then you go making invalid statements about stuff you know little about. I have no problem with people asking questions, any questions no matter how silly they may sound, but to come out making statements that are just clearly wrong and whinging about it... that is a different matter entirely.

A little bit of effort on your part would of found you the answer in no time. Google, the Channel 7 site, Wiki and the ACMA would have given you all the facts. Geez, just hitting the info button on your remote would of have told you what you were receiving in an instant.

To make incorrect statements and blame Channel 7 or Foxtel when you haven't done your homework in the first place, only shows one thing.............

Sure it is simple enough to say i bought a 1080p HD TV, now where is my 1080p broadcast.... I'm sure show room floor staff don't really explian that all to you. So i guess people just expect it?
And on an interesting flip side, i have 720p, 1080i and 1080p test material and no one yet has been able to tell me what they are veiwing in a randon test. Moving pictures are so much harder to tell with the naked eye.
