Default SBS Food Network not launching on VAST

VAST is quickly earning the same reputation as Aurora. Now 8 channels less than metro areas if you count the home shopping ones..

SBS says a launch date for Food on VAST is not definite.

The date remains undecided, but according to SBS Transmission Services, it is planned.

Initially it will be only on FTA.

It will be available on VAST at a later stage.

I missed the opening but so far no appliance promotion but the presenter, Rachael has a soft American accent so is she 'Local' or is this another 'Not Made in Australia' program??

I spoke too soon, Jeep and Dettol ads.

The Food network SBS channels are already up on Optus D1 with their other SBS distribution feed.

The more VAST avoid low quality standard definition and info channels scrunching up available bandwidth, the better, I say. The current food fare on SBS HD on Thursday evenings has a brilliant picture quality and definitely a viewing highlight.

I cant think of anything more wasteful than a cooking show in HD other than having 'Surround Sound' on a News Channel which most times has nothing but a 'Talking Head' on screen.

The SBS cooking shows are also travelogues and present some wonderful nature shots and vistas - should be mandatory in HD. Have a look some time

Haha, I know what you mean especially the shopping channels. But VAST's purpose was to give satellite viewers the same choice as metro viewers, whether it's shit or not. The lack of Nine HD is/will be a big disadvantage for VAST viewers.

If this refers to ABC news 24, that will change next year when the primary channel will become HD, & 24 may be relegated to a backwater location.

I received a phone call from the ACMA in late November and they wanted to know how many of the sites we had built are using VAST to deliver SBS. They were very pleased that they are all using D1.

Do you or anyone know what quarter of what year the ABC primary channel will become HD?

I watched some of the SBS food network over christmas while staying at my brother's house. I tell you what, Good Eats is really great. I'm hooked on Alton Brown (the presenter/producer) now and just watch dodgy episodes of it on youtube, plus his other . If it comes to VAST, with good eats still airing, I'll be mighty happy.

I just saw my post again and realised I had typed D1 when it should be D2.

Food Network is now on 11928V. Looks like they replaced SBS ONE TAS with it? I can't seem to find it with a blind scan. Anyone with a Tasmania set-top box able to see what's on Ch 3 & 31, if anything? Perhaps they're using SBS ONE VIC for both states like ABC does with Classic FM VIC/TAS?

Thanks for clarifying mate! Looks like SBS has sacrificed one of their two Foxtel SBS feeds for Food Network also. Must have been the WA one?

The only recent change I can see is an additional Fox Sports News channel. The rest have been there since at least Jan 2015.
