    Default Hoverboards

I'm thinking of getting the Grandkids Hover boards for Christmas.
Has any one purchased one or have any ideas as to who is a half pie descent supplier and who isn't ??
    Thanks
In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

I wouldnt allow my grandson one, they are dangerous to an unbalanced person, and a fall would happen very easily, if your intending on buying one, I suggest full faced helmet and full body gear.

Thanks for the warning Rick, but He's been using one for about a year now.
Some of the stuff these young kids can do is quite amazing.
I guess it's somewhat similar to skateboards we used to make as children out of our sisters roller skates

0 tolerance here by Tas police if caught using in public, I do agree with police on this, as some people are just plain stupid on these things

That ain't no Hooverboard, its just a glorified Segway.

Seen different versions of them around here, i was actually amazed at the control this kid had, as i followed him along a footpath, then down a 15% downhill, where he had complete control and braking.
    But, its not a Hoverboard.

Looks like the cops are really cracking down hard in the UK

To answer your question, this is a well renowned segway

there's a little bit of difference between the very cheap ones and the better ones, the cheapest use a different PCB and a Chinese battery and don't ride and steer as smoothly, the better ones use Samsung batteries but you can't really know which PCB is used in which, from the very dearest to the very cheapest versions there is around a USD $40 difference in the factory cost, the 6.5" wheel version has a bit more torque and the 8" wheel version has a bit more speed, the 6.5" version is the bigger seller in most markets

freight costs are not cheap on these due to the weight and size of the battery so that drives the cost up a bit

Apparently there is a place in Katoomba NSW that uses these Swegways to go along the Trails inside the property but as previously reported, they are an expensive NO-NO on Roads and Public areas.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

So, what you're saying is, they are EXACTLY the same as Roller Blades

    Which seem to be accepted

    Bless you my son

Point is, Segways are accepted, as they were first seen to be used by US Police for Inner City patrols
Germany also allow Segway Tours of landmarks, as in many places around the world

    Yet, these are treated differently

I'm not a fan, i really could care less..... But the powers at be should at least make a clear distinction.

25km/h can do serious damage. They are rightfully banned.
These boards should be only capable of 6km/h geared down with high tourque for good climbing power, as a childrens toy and off the road of course.

I also hate it if any skateboard morons are on the road near my car.

    meh, you old farking spoilsports
as if any of us haven't done dangerous stuff with homemade shit when we were young
    billycarts, fireworks, bikes, etc
    we turned out ok
    well, some of us (them)
honestly, if it's ok to allow Segways to complete and utter novices in public then it should be fine for these 'hoverboards' too (dumb name really, there's no hovering involved but that's marketing for ya)
just remember, to be old and wise you first have to be young and silly

I should have mentioned that 25km/h can do serious damage to my old bones if one of these dorks on the foot path crashes into me.

Why I hate skate boards wizzing randomly around me while I am driving are the legal consequences I have to suffer if one of these dimwits crashes into my car. The driver is always fault in this case, even if I stopped before they fly through my windscreen or get shredded in the bull bar.
His parent's lawyer will probably say I shouldn't have a bullbar or a windscreen in the first place.

I don't recall racing down roads with traffic and pedestrians in a billy cart. There was a designated hill somewhere for that.
