Default What Job do you wish you'd done?

Well, most of us here are a bit older.
So, what job do you wish you'd done?
Or may be planning to still do?

When i look back, i had an opportunity to work with a company called "Sub Sea" now called "Subsea7"
They did hyperbaric welding, surveying and maintenance on fixed offshore structures, had under water vehicles, plus land based work.
I've always wondered where i would be had i taken up that offer (i was only 21 at the time)

I've also fancied working on the Darwin Border Control Boats.

A lot of people say they wished they were a Solicitor or Lawyer, Doctor, etc....
But not for me, couldn't think of anything worse.

So, what do you wish you'd done or had the opportunity to do and never took it?

Got a great offer to create a few cook and travel books but it never turned out
Also got an offer to work for a TV channel as a trainee camera man that I never took
It could have been fun but no regrets

As a youth, I would have liked to be mechanic. At the other end of life, I look back and consider that I could have done well in corporate Law. I have mates who are pilots, and that would have been fun, too. Given recent experiences, medicine may not have been outside of the possibilities, but probably not. The job that I loved the most, was my time as a tree lopper landscaper.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

My first 'real' job was working in a Hardware store as a 15 year old sweeping the floors, dusting and filling up the shelves which I did enjoy but unfortunately, I only had the job for some 6 weeks as it had been promised to the son of a friend of the Owner but to my delight less than a month after he started, he left and I was offered the job back but as I had already started on the Railway, I declined.
I had no idea what the Railway did even though I lived by the line for years and had traveled by Train around Sydney and to Katoomba on holidays.
I found it was inside/outside/day/night/rain/hail and even snow (in later years) and you either worked with or came in daily contact with others doing their particular job, constant variety.
While we all did the same thing in our individual work, it never seemed repetitious as every day something would change just enough to stop it being boring.
Some moved about over the whole State as they gained promotion, others picked a place (like me) and vegetated.
It was fun at times in later years to see some I worked with in junior positions become part of the hierarchy (Senior Management today) and to remember what both they and I were like 'Back Then'.
I dont look back with regret or wish I did it differently' because I 'Made me choices' based on what I knew at the time and no amount of 2nd guessing or hindsight will change the past.
Its not the job I miss even though I enjoyed it but those I worked with who made it what it was but sadly the numbers are getting less as time passes.
Our Annual Dinner (53rd?) is in less than 2 weeks and in past times you counted the odd empty seats but now its the Tables that are empty with each passing year.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

I guess I would have liked to be a better mechanic than the "get things fixed when they need to be" stumbler I am now.

BUT, the real truth is I STILL want to know what I am going to be when I grow up......

There's no job I wish I'd done, worked in just about every profession and trade there is successfully, mainly for myself or contract. Having a back ground in building has been a bonus, been able to work anywhere any time I wanted and my knowledge of mechanics has kept me on the road for decades cheaply. As has my driving ability, which gave me the opportunity to push road trains and coaches round the country for years when not playing music.

Like spook, the trick is to keep moving so no one finds out just how little you know and can do until your long gone.
I never tried it but I have always wondered at those who worked in places doing the same thing (piecemeal) day after day, particularly in a factory.

i was a plumber and it aint all its made out to be nor is there as much money in it as people say.

I have done plenty of different jobs plumbing - tiling - most trades - design work - working on a long liner

but in all honesty i would not change a thing i have always enjoyed what i did and if i didnt id leave
and work some where else. For most of my working life i have been self employed , who and what i am
is because of my choices and as such would never change what i have done it was always my choice.
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it

Mods can usually see some record if something was done.

Just because it's not there now and you can't see it, doesn't mean mods can't.

You didn't need to add to it OB.

it's obvious to those whose posts have been deleted.
About 4 or 5 posts from yesterday.

He didn't need to add to what?
He has all the right in the world to add his two bits as one of his posts has been deleted as well.

No big deal really, just seems very odd.
If it wasn't done intentionally then there must have been some sort of glitch with the server

I really don't have a problem with the posts being deleted, as they were detracting from the theme of the thread, but it was in humour (and we all know weirdo)
Its a bigger shame 2 Mods went to the effort to make open posts about it (instead on PMs),
But it was too hard for them add their person input to the thread about a job or career they may have dreamed doing and keep the thread on track.
But hey, this is Austech right, when does that ever happen

    I appreciate the clean up
I hope people can just add their story now
I think we all have wondered about an opportunity lost or looked over the fence at what someone else does and wondered.

If you've had posts deleted it would have been for a reason.
