    Thumbs down Enter activation code

    Hi all,

My hard drive crashed and I had to recover using the ISO win10 pro 64

Now the system says to enter activation code. Before crash I had Win 7 which was preloaded on the Acer now that is gone as well.

Could someone please supply a valid activation code thanks

It will help heaps. I will buy a new drive or PC if I need to

    Thanks HIc

If you had a legitimate and qualifying version of Windows 7, the upgrade to Windows 10 is free - and others.

That being the case, contact Microsoft and explain the situation to them.

I recently upgraded a Windows 7 Ultimate machine to Windows 10 without any problems, but Windows 7 was running at the time.

You shouldn't need an activation code if Win 7 was upgraded to Win 10 previously.
Just do a clean install on the same machine with the install media you (should) already have.
Just skip any screens that ask for an activation code/key.

    Hi all,

My hard drive has crashed, it is now 50Gig in size instead of 350 Gig.

That is how I have manged to install from the W10 iso , Disk management shows most the disk as unallocated space.

There is only one partition which is where Win 10 now lives - there should be at least 3 partitions in win10.

This partition is almost certainly where the preloaded win7 resided and has been overwritten.

If the ISO could read the missing Win7 data, win10 would install without problems, therefore I am asking this forum for a valid win 7, 8 or any later Validation code so that I can input it and keep running until I can get enough money together to buy a new box,

    Thanks

Why not just ring Microsoft support and ask them ? If you are not running any pirated versions, there is no reason why they will not assist you with what you need.

    Easier said than done.

For the life of me I cannot get through to support without an account with M$ the autoresponder on their main number in Ryde does not want to negotiate.

Do you have a 1300 or 1800 number that will get through to support.?

The number is good - Thanks

M$ support says that I must have a qualifying OS loaded on my system before I can install W10.

About as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike !!!!

I cannot install the original OS as it was in the crashed partition where W10 sits.

They have informed me that I can buy a copy of W10 from their shop, shit that's big of them.

I ask again, CAN SOMEONE PLEASE PLEASE post a valid ID for me to use ???????

    Thanks

I had exactly the same issue with Windows 8.1 i updated from 7 OEM to 8.0 then 8.1 and the only 8.1 key I had was one they sent me for the then free media center update.

I called them a few times quoted key i had which was apparently just the media center key the 8.1 key was in an email that was lost with the drive crash.

Eventually I struck a very helpful guy who sent me a DVD and key for 8.1 Yay - Only problem was it was home not premium and did not have remote desktop which I really needed.

In the end I wound up loading Windows 7 then updating to 8.0 then 8.1 which involved a phone call to Microsoft and manually reactivating via quoting a long string of numbers.

I am on Windows 10 now and have two forms of system backup running mainly following a friends business being hit by Crypolocker.

I've not tried but I believe Windows 10 activation in retail versions phones home to MS and activates based on there database.

Plan B if you load Windows 7 (volume license) or 8.0, 8.1 with Daz you can then update to Windows 10 and thus far no problems at all :-)

So if I read you correctly I need to download a copy of Win7, a keycrack for volume licence, then try to install the same on a damaged hard drive, and then with a lot of luck I can spend another day trying to install win10 - would it not be easier to post a valid activation code?

    Thanks for your info

Activation has now changed since windows 10 1511 version. You now need a valid windows 7 or windows 8 legit key if clean install. I went through the same process as Ma Baker with some response from Microsoft idiots. What I did I installed w7 with daz crack then upgraded to w10.

I didn't read you need to install the same on a damaged HDD.

    1. Get a new HDD...your current HDD is either on the way out or corrupted and probably not a good candidate for an OS install.
    2. Install a legit or 'legit' copy of win 7...if you don't have a proper copy there are a few activators that still pass the genuine test last time I used them ....., pm if you need an activator.
    3. Upgrade to win 10 for free

"then try to install the same on a damaged hard drive" Err No.

Microsoft have at least four license channels keys for OEM, Retail, OEM SLIC and volume license. The first two are tied to the hardware meaning if you have not made large change in the hardware the original key with you system will activate it but you can call MS and they normally will run through a process to give you code to enter to activate your system again.

SLIC is a form of OEM license where the systems BIOS rom has a certificate and your OEM install media will activate automatically using one of many OEM product keys so makers like Dell, ASUS, HP etc have a few keys common to all there systems. Thus if your BIOS has a SLIC key embedded and the correct OEM media your system will activate without phoning home.

Volume licensing has two modes one a key that can activate X number of copies and key management mode both phone home. Early volume licensing VLK1 did not phone home but VLK2 does and Microsoft can see a report on the number of systems activated on that key and they phone home every 180 days from memory.

Not sure how Daz works but it does a great job and allows you to upgrade to Windows 10.

Maybe sometime in the future Microsoft will stuff that up.

    Check you PM too.

It sounds as if you have a corrupted drive partition table.

Have you attempted to recover the full 350GB capacity of the hard drive?

In situations similar to what you have described, I adopt the following procedure (which usually works quite satisfactorily).

Obtain a copy of Hirens Boot CD. I prefer Hirens version 10. (There appears to be a copy at , which you will have to burn to CD).

Boot from the CD/DVD drive of your computer. You might have to set the boot order in the computer's BIOS in order to do this. Some computers allow for this by using a Function (F) key. On my Dell Optiplex 960 it is the F12 key.

Once you have booted up using the CD, follow this procedure. (N.B. The following procedure applies to version 10. The procedure probably varies if using other versions).

    1/. Select Start BootCD.
    2/. Select Partition Tools.
    3/. Select Smart FDISK 2.05.
4/. Delete each partition, one by one on the hard drive.
5/. Once that is done, RE-PARTITION the hard drive.
6/. Check to see if the reported size matches the actual size of the hard drive. If so, proceed to the next step.
7/. Finally, FORMAT the hard drive to NTFS.

Once that is done, boot from the Windows installation disk or USB device and reinstall Windows.

N.B. Some hard drive manufacturers have their own propriety software for HDD testing and recovery. Check at the manufacturer's website.

Recently, I was forced to adopt this procedure as Hirens was unsuccessful.

Edit: I have only now seen your reference to disk management showing most of the drive as unallocated space.

In some cases where the reported size of the hard drive has "shrunk", (possibly due to corruption of the partition table), I've used EaseUS Partition Master to resize the partition to the correct size, as other methods failed to do so.

A free version of this utility is available at .

As you have already successfully installed Windows 10, I would try to restore the partition to its original size using this utility.

Drive replacement, as some have suggested, might not be necessary, as problems such as you have described can be caused by virii and other nasties. You have nothing to lose.

    Tristen,

You were spot on - MBR stuffed.

I used easus to fix the prob - Only after I got rid of the malware 7 different versions of porn and ads. The shit managed the recovery process to cancel several times.

Do you remember peter norton utilities before he sold out to the Yanks. I would love to get something like that again.

It seems that DAZ 2.4 works with Win10 Pro 64 ? MAYBE. The live cam porn site that comes with it is rubbish

In activation it still shows that activation is required, but as far as I can tell I now have full use of all W10 functions, and the activation message has stopped appearing.

Might be early days - I will update you if anything changes.

Hirens is now at Rev 15.2, and I could not make it do what you suggested. Everytime I tried DOS functions the thing just hangs. Sad but true.

    Thanks for your help

Good! I'm pleased that you have recovered your missing hard drive capacity.

Yes, In my experience malware is responsible for the majority of these problems.

Do you remember peter norton utilities before he sold out to the Yanks. I would love to get something like that again.

I am aware that it is up to v.15. and that is precisely the reason I searched for and gave you a link to version 10!!
