I'm on wireless nbn and got 44.9 down. FTTP, I'd have thought would be way better than that.
I just got NBN. Speedtest on laptop, 20mb/s. Speedtest on phone with app and connected to wifi, 40mb/s. This is a fibre to the home connection. Why the 2 different speeds?

I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
How is the laptop connected?
chipset - one could be connecting at 2.4Ghz the other at 5Ghz
Were both tests to the same location - i.e. the same Telstra/Other server in Melbourne/Other?
Fiber to node here
On phone
2.4ghz wireless 7ms ping 45mps
5ghz wireless 6ms ping 47mps
Laptop 5ghz wireless 47mps
Wired connection to router 47mps
4g Telstra 2.5mps

A lot depends on the type of wire.
I have cat6 to the node(300m), cat6 to the supernode and the fibre(another 300m) and get approx. 35mbs.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.
FTN 100 plan , new cat6 through home and asus router in the middle of the house
On phone
2.4ghz wireless 28ms ping 80.6mps 24.6mps
5ghz wireless 30ms ping 79.5mps 23.4mps
pc
10ms ping 87.4mps 56.5mps
laptop wireless
30ms ping 72.8mps 21.5mps
That depends on how much you pay your provider, not the fact that you are using fibre.
If he is on a 50Mb/s plan then something in the 40's is reasonable.
Assuming the laptop is on Wifi, the most limiting factor is the distance to the WiFi router. Anything more than 10m away or through a wall can drop the speed.
Wrong drivers installed for the laptop's wifi module or faults with it's internal antenna connections are possible.
If using Ethernet there could be a whole bunch of problems as it is going through copper. I would then connect the laptop directly to the Uni-D port of the NBN box with a short CAT cable and test the speed.

well it's something to do with my work laptop!! Tried my daughter's and getting in the 40's. Not sure what the go is with mine. I'm not having any issues though!
I'm on the Telstra tier50 plan so 40mb/s is fine and ping is 16ms
The NBN tech was saying I'd be lucky to get 20 because even though we a fibre to the home, we are connected through a multiport. The Telstra tech that ran the fibre into the house said rubbish. Seems he is correct!
