From what I've heard, this is standard procedure now.

eg: 'Standard' Foxtel boxes are being phased out/recovered and changing over to iQ with recording functions disabled for 'standard' subscribers.

So, what would happen if you were in a rental house, that already has a single connection in the wall to a dish, then ring up and obtain their services, and state that you are not able to have a second cable installed, would they end up supplying the standard box as we know it. Or would they only issue the "new" standard box, and only connect up the one cable with disabled recording functions.

My understanding is the latter... an iQ box configured to operate as a 'standard' box.

I think it will depend on what you're asking for. If you want to drop back from IQ to Standard, then clearly disabling the IQ is the way to go. If asking for an additional multiroom (standard) box then you will get whatever the installer has in his kit bag. This may be a disabled IQ or an older standard box.

Also worth chatting to the installer as they might think they're doing you a favour by giving you a newer receiver when you really want the old one. That was the situation in my case and I got to choose an older one

    Default Bluey

    Fox Sports 1HD
    Fox Sports 2HD
    ESPN2 HD (originally ESPN HD)
    Nat Geo HD

    UKTV HD (originally BBC HD)
    SPEED HD
    Starpics 2HD

However, the entitlements for HD channels aren't sent out on the 090B EMM so you can't watch them anyway. So there is little point in having an 090B ECM for the above channels but they exist. I guess they got a little carried away with the copy/paste function when setting them up.
Can someone confirm that the Bluey from standard box (Multiroom setup) still opens the above HD channels?

    Thanks

It's impossible for a bluey to decode any HD channels any more as the 090B ECM streams have been removed as of a month ago. A bluey card is totally incompatible with the 096C ECM streams.

I do quite a few installations that involve only standard boxes. 10 just this week, as a matter of fact.

Many people request a standard box and that's what they get. No IQ's with IQ functionality turned off.
All non-IQ multirooms are standard boxes too.

The 'practice' I mentioned is common in Melbourne & Sydney.

Maybe they are going to "swap out all the Foxtel Blue Cards & associated STB" in the Eastern States First

I subscribed to "Get Started" in January 2011 and got an IQ with recording features switched off, I'm in WA. They did switch the recording on for a month as a teaser and then switched it back off as I didn't bite.

I did read that Foxtel stopped ordering the older boxes in Jan 11.

Presumably they still have a pile of them to get rid of.

I have an installer who does some work for me here in Melbourne and he reports the same practice, ask for a standard box and you get a standard box.
My own Multiroom install was 1 x IQ and the rest were standard, I was rung once a few months ago asking if I would like an upgrade to multiroom IQ's, I said no and I haven't heard from them since.
