    Default UBER for NSW.

I can see a need for such a service where NO Taxi service exists but not in those areas where a Taxi service currently does.
By that I mean traveling within what is regarded as the Town area.
I am about 15/18 ks from the nearest Taxi service and I believe the Fare would be about $100 to hire a Cab because of being outside the 'Town Area' of the service and the distance traveled is charged 'Both Ways'.
Depot to Depot as the Ambulance Service does.
I have done this myself at odd times in taking in or bringing 'Home' a neighbour IF I have been going to or from but I have never sought payment for doing so as I was already going there.
To stop being made a 'Use Of' I always said that if I was going to or from I was happy to give them a ride but if I wasnt, then I wanted 'Petrol Money' at least unless it was an emergency or a sickness/illness.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

I'm with you there, gordon, our nearest regular public transport (taxis included) is about 60Km away. I actually did a trip there to pick up a couple of mates at 2AM after the AD/DC concert on Saturday night. They put some petrol in my tank as I was doing them a favour.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

I've used Uber exclusively for about the past 6 months. Cheaper, cleaner and more reliable than the pathetic excuse for a public transport service that calls themselves Swan Taxis. I will not go back to taxis if it can be at all avoided. It's about time some competition came along to shake things up.

The only downside with Uber or My Teksi is the driver can cancel, which is a pain in the ass.
And a reason why traditional Taxis will always have a place.

The sooner people work out Uber, My Teksi and Ride Sharing are all complementary to traditional Taxis, the sooner they can all get on with it.
If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!

After being left high and dry by booked Taxis that never turned up, I use Hire Cars or Airport Transport. Actually cheaper.

I know a few people that use Uber and are very happy.
One user fell asleep and got the long road home. He contacted Uber and they reviewed his previous trips and refunded the money.

If I have to ride in something, I use taxis...pretty good here. BUT, if its late or critical, hire cars as well....they WILL be there.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

atleast they are making the uber fellas follow a few rules and that they will
need to be licensed have security checks and cars inspected ( more thorough than pink slip )

Blind freddy can see the governments thinking.
1; look good making an effort
2: licensed = registered = digital foot print
3: tax tax tax and more tax

all those driving so far have done so with out declaring the earnings , but now to drive they must be licensed and as such
the government will know and get records from uber for all monies they have dispersed in Australia
and as such catching all those not disclosing the income. But the classic is that the majority of drivers are doing it as a
supplement to their full time job so all earnings will be added to their income and taxed accordingly
    above 37%
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it

Income Tax's are a Federal Preserve and the State couldnt care less about that BUT the opportunity to collect registration fees and anything else that comes under 'State' they will be happy to collect for sure.
I am wondering how the Insurance Industry are looking at the UBER service and what 'Terms and Conditions' can we see regarding Vehicle Insurance (Comprehensive, Accident/Injury/3rd Party property etc) as I am sure they wont want to miss a chance to make money from it.

yeah i do understand that tax's are federal but now that the act and nsw have made rulings
stating that the driver must be licensed the federal tax man will be able to do the
    digital connection with income.

I am also waiting to see how the insurance companies react now that the service has been
approved in that it is a commercial carriage service transporting person's from point a - to - b

I dont know about Victoria but in NSW when you register a vehicle, you have to declare Private or Commercial and pay the appropriate fee.
The same applies when you do the CTP (Compulsory Third Party) Private or Commercial and I would say if a claim is made by a UBER Passenger and your NOT correctly insured, will the Insurer cover the claim?
I would imaging the same applies to Comprehensive Insurance, Private or Commercial.

I dont think even having your vehicle insured as Commercial would entitle you to engage in carrying paying passengers like either a Taxi or Hire Car because that requires a different vehicle inspection to one that is used as a Goods and parcels only.

yes true but to date all ubers have been private registered vehicles but now will need
commercial rego and insurance so what will insurance companies do
if car is run as uber with private insurance.

all added expenses and their prices will have to either go up accordingly or stay the same and make jack
it will weed out a fair number of drivers and i bet many will get caught by ato for non declaration of income

When your pissed like he was, it was the next day or so that he noticed the difference.
He is not a friend and certainly in the idiot group.
The point was that they reviewed his history and refunded. Would not happen so easily with a Taxi.

Time was when there was a thing in the registration about "Hire, Fare or Reward", assuming that if you fell into that category, a whole new ball game applied. Not sure if that proviso still applies.

I always thought a 'Commercial' vehicle was one that engaged in any form of Business activity not only carrying 'Goods' but one used by a 'Tradesperson' going about their work BUT not for 'Hire, Fare or Reward' which was the realm of the 'Taxi/Hire Car' legislation with different rules, terms, conditions and Fees applying between the 3 categories.

However, until the NSW State Government releases their proposed legislation regarding the operation of an UBER service, its all just supposition.

Uber legal in NSW, taxi owners to be compensated.

UBER is legal in NSW after Premier Mike Baird’s cabinet agreed on giving the ride-sharing service the green light.
Cabinet today agreed to immediately legalise the UberX service, and finalised a compensation plan for taxi owners who will see the value of their plates drop dramatically.

    Full story .

That didn't take long did it

Only a few months when i posted about being a Uber Driver, people were up in arms, "It will never last", blah blah,....
    Now its fully legalised.

But this is just the start, now UBER is through the door, watch all the other cheaper Ride Share operators come running in.

Reports advise Uber drivers in NSW will need a special licence, and discissions are still to be made on the rego and insurance that will be required. If they are on a level playing field then it all seems fair.

The Taxi Licence owners have copped it the hardest, the rubbish money the Government are offering as a rebate is disgusting.
And now the Government wants $1 a ride from all the Ride Share services.

Talk about it all being about money

Anyway, the more underground ride sharing services are already here, Technology is just to quick for the law makers.
