have you got program called tweakui installed?
maybe see if theres update drivers for mobo usb?
Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone can help me with this little problem?
When i put my usb sticks into my usb ports (front or back) i hear the noise saying that the drive has been picked up, when i go into My Computer folder to see the drive it is not there. If i right click on My computer and select manage-disk manager?? i can see the drive with no letter drive attached. I can then select open this drive with the following Drive letter and it assigns it so that i can view the drive from drive manager but still not My Computer folder. Then if i close this and look again the Drive letter has gone and i have to re assign a new Drive letter.
I have an External hard drive attached to one usb port and have no trouble with this drive.
Any help would be great.
Thanks
Gavogr

the drive letter has a conflict.
make sure that no network drive is mapped to the first letter after your CDROM drive.
Also if you have any H/w with an exclamation mark against it in device manager it will wait to resolve that before going down the list of plug and play devices such as a usb stick.
Right click on My computer and to go Manage then to Device Manager.
Does anything have a Yellow ! next to it ?
You mention "sticks" as in you have more than one. I'm presuming this problem occurs with all sticks?
Do they work Ok in another computer?
Hmmmm... ok so it's definitely the PC then.
Go into Device Manager, find USB near the bottom, uninstall all USB devices [Root, Hubs etc] and reboot the machine. Allow Windows to reinstall everything and see what happens.
Sounds to me like something's got screwed up.
what operating system are you using?
I've heard mention of a windows update loading the wrong usb driver.
Boot from the Cd and run a repair, which will remove all windows updates back to as delivered.
It sounds extreme but probably the easiest way.
Oh...and your existing usb devices may be pushing the electrical drive capability of the usb controller, especially external hard drives.
hey gavogr
Any memory/performance management utilities you got running in the system tray or a tweeking utility maybe? just disable and or try shutting them down those as a precausion. I has a similar problem yonks ago and doing this resolved it. Hope this helps.
